Can anyone tell me whether its possible to buy a T-Mobile pay as you go phone (marked exclusive to T-Mobile) and use my works O2 sim card in it? Have knackered my works phone and want to replace it, best deals seem to be on TMobile PASG with sim less phones more expensive.


Also. is it possible to remove a mobile companies block to make the phone available on all networks?

Q1. Probably not. If phones are branded in such a way, normally means they are locked to said network.

Q2. However, someone who knows what they are doing can bypass this. You may find market stalls or accesory shops that will charge you app. £10 for the service

O2 phones always used to come unblocked. I know Nokias are easy to unblock, not sure about other makes.

Absolutely any phone can be unblocked and it is a very simple procedure. You just need to find somewhere that will do it. These days every Tom, Dick and Harry is getting in on it though so it shouldn't be too difficult. Mate of mine got his T-Mobile Pay as you Go phone unblocked in Asda. And in Lingfield village round my way the local antiques shop has got in on the act.

Search google and you should find a shedload of entries for places that will help

If its a nokia you can get a code off the internet if not you will need someone to physically unlock it.

Bought my new phone from Tesco the other day, it came with their Tesco pay-as-you-go simcard. I'm with O2, so I got the phone unblocked in that internet cafe down Cranbourne St (the pedestrianised street between Churchill Sq and West St). A dodgy looking indian bloke did it for a tenner, took about 2 minutes. You can also get phones unblocked in that mobile accessory stall thats in Churchill Square right next to the burger/hot dog stand outside the Prince of Wales.

I can now chuck any simcard from any network in my phone.

all other advise here is good, but assumes the phone in question is dual band. There are still some single band models around, and no trickery from an indian chap in a Internet cafe is going to get a phones frequency changed. (02 and Vodafone use one frequency, TMobile and Orange another, and 3 is different too)

I have a feeling that the phone provider you are with has a legal obligation to unblock the phone once you are out of contract if you request so. They may charge though.
