with all due respect, come back when you have had experience of bringing up children and I will certainly argue the toss with you. You obviously have extremely blinkered views and nothing I could say or do as Mr Rusthall found will divert you from those views, therefore at this moment I fail to see the point in continuing.....but as I said we are all in agreement that child abuse is something we all abore, but where we differ is the assumption that a small sharp slap when all else has failed is tantamount to abuse.

Couple of things. If you can't argue your point successfully and have to resort to the old "no experience" chestnut then just as well you are bowing out.

Secondly, I think taken as a whole the child whackers are in the minority!

Well, for a start, that is a completely seperate issue. You would be acting in self defence. You seem to jave this idea that because I don't agree with hitting a child then I must be some kind of "new man". I spent years arresting "chavs" and used plenty of force in doing so, just think there is a differance between a child acting up and a teenager trying to mug you. D'Ya see?

And you think it's as black and white as that, do you?

And, based on your reasoning, a teenager is not a child?

No I don't believe it is as black and white as that but when I am given such simplistic examples to deal with what do you want.

I see teenagers as children on the whole but th epoint I was making was more that of course if someone is trying to cause you harm then you need to act, However, it is very rare that your own child is going to try and cause you any real physical harm (at least none that would have you in fear of your well being).

The only thing I see Nibble is you in a great big hole thats getting bigger and bigger the more you post on the subject, your entitled to opinions but the one thing you lack is experience and that counts for a lot.

Massively intelligent argument there Dave. How old do you have to be before your opinion is valid? 31, 41, 101?

not an argument at all...I know your views, you know mine, there is no point debating further.

I was just interested in how old you were and wished you a nice day....dont be so defensive.

I think the argument "You don't know what it's like to be a parent etc" has been used and discarded by now.I'm not married but I knowe I will never hit my future wife. I don't own a dog but I know I would never kick it if I did.
I have never been a drink driver but my opinion on drink drivers is valid. I have never murdered anyone but my opinion on murderers is valid. Yet somehow my opinion on hitting children is invalid. That argument is tired, it is irrelevant and it is, to be honest, quite lame.

I promise you, in the future, hitting children will be viewed with the dis-taste it so badly deserves.

Spot on, like you say its just a matter of time until its rightfiully banned........

I can see where you would get that opinion from,. But so far the only argument I have heard so far for smacking children is "wait and see" "You have no experience" etc. And that just is not a valid excuse for hitting another person.

If the experience you draw on is being so frustrated that you have to hit them then how could I respect that opinion?
