I work for a Gulf based company ... and I spent a year living in the Gulf a while back.

... and yes their slavish following of their religion is a sign of crass ignorance (or else they are scared to stand up and question it).

... and what makes it worse is that they are all such bloody hypocrites following a religion that (apparently) forbids alcohol and extramarital sex and then dashing off at every opportunity to do those same things when they think no one is watching.

... by the way, the slavish adherance to other equally bizarre religious ceremonies by followers of other world religions is equally crass and ignorant.

I think they need to modernise the whole system, take a leaf out of us Brits, we know how to queue. Perhaps introduce a numbered ticketing system like you have at the Deli counter, or a Post Office style "Cashier number 3 please" type thing. Or if you pay a bit extra you could be given a time slot like they have at theme parks and queue jumpers.

This could easily be paid for by advertisers sponsering a stone with things like "Try the new McDonalds Muslim Burger". There are definitely business opportunities here which have been overlooked

Thanks! Here's a message for Rev Impala and anyone else whose irony balls haven't dropped yet.

This topic isn't actually about ridiculing Islam; it's really about religion. Whenever mass deaths occur at the Hajj, you'll always get people saying what a stupid religion Islam is anyway: simple peasants, throwing stones at the Devil and all that....

So to forestall anyone getting all superior about Islam on NSC, it seemed worthwhile pointing out that some western religions are based on equally ridiculous fantasies, like virgins giving birth.
