...couldn't believe the subject of the phone-in this morning "Wayne Rooney is better than Pele - discuss".
Whilst justifying this topic Parry's conversation with Alan Brazil went something like this:
Parry: "Al, tell me what has Pele ever achieved?"
Brazil: "Er, three World Cup Winners medals and a hatful of goals?"
Parry: "Yes, but most of those goals were scored against people from the forested areas of Brazil in a weak league. Ok, he scored a thousand goals, but he only ever played for Santos in a weak league! Tell me Al, when did he ever show individual skill on the world stage like Rooney, apart from the header that Banks saved or the dummy run around the Czech keeper in the same tournament?... etc etc
I couldn't believe that it had slipped Parry's memory that as a boy of 17 Pele scored two goals in the 1958 World Cup Final against the Swedes in Stockholm, one of them an all-time classic goal.
Parry is getting worse and worse...
