Westie, I usually respect your posts, but you currently seem to be thoroughly enjoying our current predicament :wozza:

The Albion lost, that’s done and dusted.

Enjoying the nsc debates, yes definitely. Including echoing the MOTD analysis of the VAR blunders.

If some create a false narrative that Dean/VAR were against us and played a part in the loss, I’ll challenge that. Dean/VAR prevented a 9 man Albion.

I'm probably wrong (obviously) so one for the football laws experts on here, but wasn't that the point? The goal is deemed punishment enough, to send off Sanchez would be double jeopardy? If Diaz had missed or Dean had pulled it back and given a penalty, Sanchez would have been sent off. Or something like that.

You are right, you're wrong. :)

Putting an opponent's safety in danger with a reckless challenge like that is a red card whether they go on to score or not.

Posters moaning about Dean clearly haven't realised who's reffing the next game...

..Harry Kane.

Didn't see much wrong with him yesterday apart from not sending Sanchez off. No point blaming the ref for another defeat when we can't produce anything. Start looking at our underperforming midfielder's and strikers. If you don't score you don't win football matches. Gyokeres must be worth 10 times what we sold him for now and we kept Connolly ffs

So, what everyone is saying is that Dean, not sending off Sanchez was just incompetence?
Sorry, I don't buy that MD would turn down any opportunity to flourish a red card.

Was that the whole game or just MOTD few mins…because he certainly didn’t give us the benefit of the doubt over almost everything and he’s not the reason why we lost the game ..he just made it all the more frustrating

Whole game but I admit it was quite late so I might have nodded off at a few points. It's a bit difficult to maintain full concentration watching a game back when you know the result and when the major incidents happened!

Believe me there are far far worse referees around than Mike Dean, (Jon Moss anyone? Kevin Friend perhaps?).

At the end of the day we need to be prepared to put our hands up and admit, that despite how much we huffed and puffed, despite how unlucky some may have perceived us to be, we were just beaten by a world class side, who were quicker to the ball, stronger once in possession, and had the nous how to win a football match.

I don’t think that’s in debate, more Dean’s performance.

Nobody has mentioned when Maupay went down, still yet to see it but a number of people said VVD was pulling his shirt and clipped his foot, that wasn't referred either, but not everything gets referred.

The Bissouma challenge was happening all over the pitch usually against us and he didn’t penalise Liverpool at all, so the fact he didn’t blow, and it wasn’t raised by VAR just shows it was a minimal issue,

I do agree with Bozza in that if Diaz hadn’t scored, then more scrutiny would have been on the challenge. I still think momentum of both players, has played a part in the final decision. Remember Sanchez was spreading himself, as per Schmeichel, and was effectively coming down when they collided, due to them moving towards each other, that isn’t necessary reckless.

As per my earlier post, at the time I thought he would go, having seen it afterwards I was less convinced

Blimey you like a bit of torture then….I’ll happily watch the whole game again if we’ve won (havnt for a while) ..but not when we deservedly lose

Did you watch MOTD?

Missed by us in the NS in real time, Bissouma blatantly fouled Salah as went to shoot just before half time, 3 yards from goal. J.Pearce said a definite pen and it was, would’ve been a red too.

VAR prevented a cricket score Albion loss.

I did see it, yes. Thought that one was relatively soft, frankly.

I was more disappointed, as I was "live", that Salah was able to get to where he did.

Rules experts may have already responded on this, but I'm not sure the goal precludes anything. For a start, if a goal meant "no red card" the VAR dude wouldn't have had anything to do, and we know he did review it.

Aside from the fact that Sanchez's challenge was late, high, reckless, with excessive force and endangering an opponent, I thought Dean got the decision spot on.

Thought he was fine yesterday and he/VAR helped us in fact by not giving that blatant red card.

He’s a good ref.

He's really not - in fact there are VERY few good referees in the PL any more. Michael Oliver is probably the exception.

They're not helped by cheating players but IMO the standard of referring in the PL is at an all time low.

As for the assistants.....

I thought he did well and didn't get a lot wrong. Admittedly I was one of those in the NS who was apoplectic at a few of his decisions during the game, but after watching back he got everything right. As for the other officials though, I agree with previous posters that the quality of linesmen/women has been appalling since the introduction of VAR. Many may as well not even be there as they seldom make a decision and when they do they often get it wrong
