You may also wish to review the balance of where the referees are located, there is a clear bias to the North West, which feels like it seems to manifest itself in 50/50 decisions against us in a number of games.

Foreign referees look far better than PL in European games, and I think with the exception of Anthony Taylor and Michael Oliver, frankly in the main they are abysmal. Even incompetent clowns like Lee Mason are found a job…. The whole system is not fit for purpose.

But I agre, I thought we were okay today. I mean we’re playing Liverpool FFS….. what was everyone expecting?

Also, missed by all of us at the game, Bissouma clearly fouled Salah three yards from goal just before half time, yanking him back as he was about to strike “A clear foul anywhere on the pitch. A clear penalty”.

If there’s bias/corruption in the game, the VAR officials today loved us. Inexplicably not recommending two sending offs and missing a second penalty.

But all football commentators favour bigger teams over smaller ones, as they never know when they will be interviewing the likes of Koop et al…… rRemember Ferguson and the Beeb?

It was a suck-up comment over a challenge that was happening throughout the game, ironically Dean was actually being consistent….

As for Sanchez, the behind the goal angle does make it look a poor challenge, but there was still significant momentum for both players and perhaps that is why three officials did not feel it was a red….

I was pretty fed up following the radio commentary yesterday and the on line comments. Having seen the extended highlights this morning it did not look so bad as it was painted. True Sanchez was wrong to come out as he did but the collision did not show any intent to clobber Diaz .
We kept going to the end and usual could not score... This time last year we would have loved to be in 13th Place in the league. This is not to be complacent about the awful run of losses but I feel there is not so much wrong as I feared .

Yes, interesting to get a closer look on MOTD.

Thought that MD had a poor game originally but, in practice, it seems that Liverpool should be the ones complaining about his/VAR decisions as the key ones were all in our favour.

Sanchez should have been sent off and Salah should have had a penalty without a shadow of doubt. Quite why VAR thought otherwise is beyond me as they were clear and obvious errors?

I was elsewhere and couldn't see the game on TV either, so all I had heard from multiple sources was how Mike Dean had ruined the game for us. But when I was finally able to watch it, I thought he gave us the benefit of the doubt on almost everything.

Was that the whole game or just MOTD few mins…because he certainly didn’t give us the benefit of the doubt over almost everything and he’s not the reason why we lost the game ..he just made it all the more frustrating

Sanchez’s challenge was reckless and dangerous in the extreme and could easily have resulted in a serious injury to Diaz.

Yes, we kept going till the end, which is the team’s saving grace at the moment, but we never really looked like scoring apart from Trossard’s abysmal miss (plus Welbeck’s effort) but even this would have been chalked off by a clear handball by Maupay.

Personally, I think we’re playing worse than last season when we were making plenty of good chances but couldn’t put them away.

This season we’re not even making many chances but have been saved so far by a good slice of luck in our earlier games.

No idea what the solution is apart from the old chestnut of spending shed loads of TB’s money on new strikers/midfielders but, if we can’t start scoring a few goals and eking out a few wins at home, then I’ll be seriously wondering if it’s worth the time, money and effort. I don’t expect us to be challenging for the title or honours but I want to be entertained……..

My main issue with Dean yesterday was that the first 10-15 minutes we really pressed and harassed Liverpool and won many balls with this aggressive but fair approach. Then a switch seemed to be turned on where he would blow his whistle and award a free kick to Liverpool whenever we attempted this.

Believe me there are far far worse referees around than Mike Dean, (Jon Moss anyone? Kevin Friend perhaps?).

At the end of the day we need to be prepared to put our hands up and admit, that despite how much we huffed and puffed, despite how unlucky some may have perceived us to be, we were just beaten by a world class side, who were quicker to the ball, stronger once in possession, and had the nous how to win a football match.

Having seen the replay of the Sanchez/Diaz incident, I am very surprised it wasn't a red or, at the very least, Dean wasn't asked to wander over to the sideline for another look.

I can't help but feel if the header had gone wide of the post, it would have been a foul, red card and penalty.

Missed by us in the NS in real time, Bissouma blatantly fouled Salah as went to shoot just before half time, 3 yards from goal. J.Pearce said a definite pen and it was, would’ve been a red too.

The double jeopardy bit only comes into it where a goal scoring opportunity is prevented by an accidental foul from a genuine attempt to win the ball.

Reckless play endangering an opponent is also and separately considered.
