He was appalling in his second stint with us, but will always be a legend for building a quality team around Zamora and getting us out of the basement.

I think he is one of those mangers that work best with a shoe-string budget, who builds a strong team ethic. He has made them very hard to beat, with a back-four that very rarely concedes.

Is this the same Micky Adams who hasn't won anything for almost a decade, or a different one that I'm not aware of?

I've always believed that his failure the second time round was down to the fans and the negative atmosphere we created.

I've always thought his first spell was rather flattering on him. He signed us some good players in the basement league as we had a very healthy budget compared to the rest of them. He then signed a Championship/Premiership standard striker whom won us the league.

He's not a bad manager, but I think his inherent lack of more than one dimension and signing a load of duds was more to blame for his failure on his return than a negative atmosphere created by the fans.

Was gutted the way things worked out for a Brighton legend, but clearly a top lower league manager.

I think you'll find it was the bizarre team selections, ridiculous tactics and the general air of not seeming to give a shit was what lost him the fans and, ultimately, his job.

That's alien to me right now. Adams has been spot on with everything he has done for Vale since arriving 18 months ago.

We have a team to be proud of now. Our regular back 4 consists of 3 'losers' from Dean Glovers reign who let in around 80 goals - we now have 13 clean sheets this season.....unbelievable. Even that back four has been broken up through injury the last couple of weeks and we've manged 3 clean sheets out of 4 games - we have a bit of strength in depth despite our measly budget.

I think Micky was right in saying he needed Vale as much as Vale needed him -as someone said he's a great manager for a shoesting budget. His strength is getting the fitness and mental side of the game right.

PS: Lofty - what a star!

Peter Taylor (the 2nd) has a great record in the lower two divisions.

I agree with all of this and lay the blame firmly at Dick Knight's door.

Yeah what a manager, long ball football and stupid practical jokes to show that they are "all lads". I cant imagine why English football has achieved fck all since 1966. Who next Graham Taylor was misunderstood > Why not go the complete journey and make Dave "harry" Basset director of football. Havepeople really learnt so little after watching Spain win the Eiros and the World Cup by playing passing football with half the team 5ft7 and under? Obviously not, yeah lets go with some version of Mark Hately up front.Jesus.

Errr..................with the exception of Zamora all the players he signed were on free transfers in his first spell. As for Zamora being a Championship/Premiership standard striker, what was he doing in Bristol Rovers reserves if he was that good unless no one else apart from MA saw his potential?

Second time around things did not work out, if Forster and Murray had been fit that season we would have probably ended up higher in the league IMO though.

For me, Adams is still a legend here. He turned the club right around in his first spell and we haven't looked back. Unfortunately things didn't work out in his second spell buy hey, that's life and it certainly doesn't make him a bad manager.

Great to see him doing so well at Vale and he has nothing but my good wishes.

How do the fans get the blame for clueless tactics and players who couldn't be arsed managed by someone who talked like and had his teams playing like he didn't give a shit?

Glad to see him doing well again but no way you can dress up his 2nd stint here as anything but a disaster

'One of the greatest?' No.

A very good lower league manager who does know how to get the best out of what he wants or needs? Yes.

I think it's churlish to re-write the history of his first spell here on the back of his second spell.
