No not another signing thread, just interesting to listen to him on 5 live. Talking about his style as a striker and he talks in past tense.

Yes I know he is finished before you point that out. Just surprised to hear him speak that way.

Listening to him speak is a surefire cure for insomnia.

Those injuries in his mid 20s destroyed him.

Was his lack of hunger/desire partly to blame? He has appeared disinterested in football for a long time.

How soon is now?
His only interest in football is as a means to fund his horse racing interest. He won't drop down the leagues because the expectation is that he'd actually have to play for his wages, whilst for the time being he picks up a decent wage for doing next to nothing.

I'm still annoyed that our TV license goes (go's; gos) towards his appearances on MOTD. He is dull. He may have been a decent player once, but I'd rather not sit and watch a dullard chat about football. He offers nothing.

I saw him on goals on sunday a few months ago & he was adamant that he could still do it in the premier league.I little while later he signed for stoke.
Ever since he returned from real madrid he has either been injured or seen as a squad player. When he was released by man utd it was a great opportunity to join a championship club who could guarantee him first team football & a chance to play regular football again.
I am not suggesting for one second that we should have been that club because I think he brings to much baggage with him.

Had he not signed for stoke I think a lot of championship teams would have looked at trying to get him.

Stoke are a well established premier league team but have a unique way of playing & for owen to sign for them tells me that he was more interested in the money than the chance of playing first team football.

When his contract runs out at stoke I can't see many clubs looking to sign him

Yes. Agree. But what a waste. What a waste. Nothing anyone can do about it. Including him. Just doesn't want it.

Does he enjoy playing football? He was going to retire (or at least, retire from England) if a top flight club didn't come for him. He's a nob. Eeked a fortune, in the last few years, whilst providing next to nothing.

You could say that about literally every pundit on MoTD. Its just a crappy boys club now.

Got no time for Owen.

He spends half his time on twitter and in his blogs bleating on about how its 'not about the money'

He keeps telling himself that and he may eventually believe it. He signed a one year extension at United knowing full well he'd be a bit part player at best. However ill give him the benefit of the doubt as they are a prestiges club.

But to depart them with all those championship offers on the table (offering regular football at this late stage of his career) and he then ops for bloody Stoke.

Think he just wants an end of career CV with nothing but top flight football on it. Never mind the fact he hasn't played regular first team football for years. The blokes an idiot.

No ambition, doesn't care

Did I see him in the Grand Hotel yesterday? probably, not, because I was in Hertfordshire.

Loved him as a player in his early years, but agree he is as dull as ditchwater.

What's going on - it's transfer deadline day, there's an Owen thread and it's NOT about him being spotted at Donatello's with Tony?

Come on NSC. If today is not going to be about spurious unfounded rumours I might have to give up and actually do some work.
