I am toying with the idea of going with the other half to see Mamma Mia. She has seen it twice already and LOVES it. She is a huge Abba fan and lets be fair Abba were the greatest " pop " act of all time. They made some superb sings, a very good body of work.

Will I be greeted by hordes of 20 and 30 something Women, 40 or 50 somethings reliving their youth and posses of Gay men on an outing ? or will there will some " normal " Heterosexual men as well ?

The film is the most successful film of the year in the UK knocking all the summer blockbusters into a cocked hat taking around £ 50 000 000 so far.

Certainly it has more appeal than the abhorent Sex and the City because of the craft of the Abba songs and Streep is a great actress and I like Brosnan although he murders the song he did by all accounts.

Chaps would you put your doubts to one side and go and watch Mamma Mia and embrace the genius of Abba or point blank refuse.

NSC will decide my fate.

Over to you.

Just don't! I made the mistake of agreeing to go with the Home Secretary (against my better judgement), and it is shockingly bad.

I voted 'yes begrudgingly' but only because I got dragged along to see the live show in London last year and ended up absolutely loving it. So much so that I can't see how the film can better it seeing as half the main characters in it can't even sing properly and I can't stand Meryl Streep.
I defy anyone to go and see the live show and not like it.

I'd rather place my testicles in a juicer, then dip in tabasco pepper sauce.

Next...... ???

Actually, watching you do that sounds like it might be more fun than Mama Mia, I've got some tabasco sauce, when are you free ?

Took my old dear & the family to see it for her 60th, actually thought it was highly enjoyable! I've always though ABBA made decent pop songs.

I went with the other half determined not to enjoy it and have a cheeky 90 minute nap but I ended up loving it.
I'd forget about 20 something women and even 50 year olds - when we went the cinema was full of over excited 13 year old girls. Luckily it was dark in there which meant there were none of those awful "Gully's Girls moments" !!

Depends what your cringe tolerance level is. I will admit to enjoying one or two "chick flicks" and I also recognize that ABBA were fantastic songwriters despite my signature showing they're not my usual taste in music.

But that film is so cringeworthy. Streep seems to be drunk throughout and there's too many songs for me, and I love sweeney Todd which is also a musical. So go if you think u can handle a high level of "intentional" cheese.

To compound things, also on release is...Mamma Mia - Digital Sing Along

MAMMA MIA - DIGITAL SING ALONG (PG)

Universal aims to pump up Labor Day weekend grosses for its hit movie musical "Mamma Mia!" by presenting "Mamma Mia! The Sing-Along Edition" in select theaters nationwide.

For the sing-along engagements, the movie's prints will include subtitled lyrics to all the songs so that audiences can sing along. "Sing-along" showings of movie musicals have become popular on the festival circuit, and last summer New Line also employed the strategy several weeks into its run of "Hairspray."

Would you enjoy watching your grandparents singing Abba classics? If you must go, either take a good book with you, or an ipod. The film was almost as much fun as watching a Dean Wilkins inspired Albion trying to steal a point at Withdean against inept opposition.

Hither (sometimes Thither)
I imagine it to be as shit and pointless as Summer Holiday, which made me angry and send poisoned bottles of mistletoe and wine to the toothy, unballed virgin.

I think if you want to retain respect for the Streeper then it could be worth a miss. I like her, in general.
If you want some mildly disappointing and only averagely-handled action then the Dark Knight can have you.
Reports suggest that Wall-E would be the most adult of the three, and that is no insult.
