They'll think McGhee has confidence in them to do the job in League 1 to the extent that he doesn't see signing loads of players as a priority, just the one targetman? That's the reading most people with have without anti-McGhee axes to grind.

Im very pro-McGhee but I think it was a stupid comment to make.

Couldn't agree more... other clubs are a lot worse off than us in this div... look at Rotherham for instance... some people on here seem to think we are the only club in financial difficulty, when in fact almost all clubs in our div are struggling financially...

I'd want to see some concrete evidence of all this first. What we can guess at reasonably is that there are probably are SOME in worst shape than us, but we have unique difficulties, a ground that costs a huge amount more than other League 1 grounds because we don't own it, hence we get no revenue whatsoever from the first 3,000 through the gate, and secondly, the distraction of a costly off-the-pitch court fight, which will resolve the very future viability of the club.

We really need to see a few more facts and figures, analysis of turnover and losses, before we can complacently assume that our finances are any better than mid-table in this league.

I agree (!!)... I expect we are about mid-table financially in league 1...

Really?... how would you feel if your boss said he would "make do" with you?... would you feel motivated?... or would you think, he is not particularly happy with your performance?...

Ridiculous comparison - every manager sits down in the close season and looks at how much improvement in the squad that is needed. What McGhee is actually saying is expressing CONFIDENCE in the squad that the existing players can do the job.

It is only in the bitter, twisted myopic world of NSC that McGhee's words gets turned into a diplomatic incident supposedly slagging off the players.

How many times did we have this rubbish on NSC last season?

Can't we discuss real things rather than this childish garbage?

You've appointed yourself voice of the people now? :lolol:

I haven't got an "axe to grind" with McGhee, no personal vendetta, as far as I'm aware he's never raped my mother or anything.

I'm sure when he says he will make do them with that really inspires the players, with such confidence from their beloved leader they will SURELY walk the division next season. Some may have been doubting themselves, but NO! McGhee will make do with them.

It's all about opinions, LI... personally, I don't find the comparison ridiculus at all... but, there you go... to be honest, I just enjoy "jousting" with your good self... is that wrong?... :)

BW makes some very good points, it was a silly thing to say by MM. If I was a player I would not be happy reading that.

You want evidence for every statement others make LI but don't offer up any in your assumption that most fans will read it in a certain way or that this would have no affect on the players because MM wouldn't be telling them this in training. You also have a pop at people for analysing MM comments, well what else have people got to go on? You also have a nasty habit of putting pro-McGhee people who question some of his actions into the anti-MM bracket.

Then why come on here? BW is making some decent, well thought out points and you are using it as a way to condescend to the rest of us. If NSC is so distasteful for someone of your superior intellect and reasoning what's the point of coming on here. BW is being perfectly reasonable but you just keep dismissing his comments rather than engaging with them in a reasonable way.

While I am anti Mcghee I do its the case of not being his fault when it comes to signing players after what has come to light in the past few weeks.

Dont think the club will wait until close to the season starts to sign new players. As stated in argus today hoping to bring in 1 soon
Maybe for once the club will shock us and at pre-season training there will be a couple of decent new faces

That's fair enough, I quite enjoy jousting with you too :D

You really think players are going to read that article and be demotivated? I, mean REALLY? They're big boys now you know! :)

I didn't perhaps explain myself as well as I could earlier. I think there is an interesting debate to be had about McGhee's remarks, but not this pathetic one about all the players going home and crying because they've been told they'll just "make do".

I think it centres on McGhee's strategy of one major signing up front - this is a gamble of sorts, based on two things:

1) the rest of the team is adequate for the challenge of League 1
2) the forward line isn't currently.

I think these are fair assumptions, but obviously a huge amount now depends on the forward we sign. Get this wrong, and we could be in for a tough time, get it right, then we could be in for a morale-boosting season.
