I hope she's found, don't get me wrong, but what exactly makes her disappearance that much more newsworthy than any of the other thousands of disappearances (of both children and adults) that happen in this country and around the world every day, week, month and year?

You don't see some of them mentioned in the news at all, much less 6 months after the fact, so what makes her case special (besides the parental negligence that caused it)?

that is just crass nonsence.

the reason it is different, is that the Mcanns have made sure the image of their daughter has been viewed by as many people as they can....their effort in trying to find their daughter and hopefully secure either a release or heaven forbid return of a body is to be applauded, not demonised because the public and media have got "tired" of them.

I always remember the case of a young girl that died after taking extacy at her 16/18 birthday party. The father tried desparately hard to keep her case at the forefront, trying to get the police to chase up the dealers/suppliers etc etc...he was eventually told by the authorities that he should move on and they didnt have the resources to chase up every lead and if he didnt stop, they would do him for harrassment!

It just appears that if something tragic happens the public's capacity for news is such that unless a breakthrough is made very quickly interest is replaced by Jordan having bigger tits, or Jody marsh shagging a donkey.

All power to the Mcanns elbow.

God knows what their mortgage payments are but to use the fund for this seems to me to be wrong.

If I'd given I'd expect that money to be used for lawyers, maybe private detectives or the like.

To make mortgage payments on their house? No f***ing way

Each to their own though

are you a little bit stupid?

This has one been done to death, though I agree.

If a couple of fat chavs left their 3 toddlers locked in a chalet while they popped for a kebab in Skegness, you would not have a million pound fund set up to help find them and pay their rent

With the windows open none the less. They'd be hounded out of the country and done for negligence!

too right.

Chavs can squeeze out chavlets at the drop of a chip wrapper. One goes missing? occupational hazard - they'll just assume social services took little Tasha or Wayne away. They're bound to have a few more anyway in the pipeline.

I just don't see why this couple is getting all the publicity and money they like to help find their child, when thousands more go missing without so much as a whisper. That's what gets me. And then to use money to help find their child on their mortgage when they've been on full pay for 6 months is just taking the piss IMO. And don't get me started on the whole cinema adverts they used.

I really hope they find her safe and well, but I really don't see why we need this story rammed down our throats 24/7 for 6 months when other kids go missing every day, but don't have middle class white doctors for parents.

To correct the facts, it appears they have not been on full pay, they have been on unpaid leave, now I would think the employers would have paid them due to compassionate grounds but it is not appropriate to take it from the fund imho, the mortgage paid was July and August at £ 2000 pm, the only reason it did not continue to be paid from the fund was that as they were suspects legally it was not possible, also where does it end, does the fund pay the costs of their trip abroad, meals, drinks, I do find it hard to sympathise with someone who left their children alone for many nights in a row whilst they were eating and drinking and enjoying themselves
