And has actually put in some decent performances in midfield previously.

I realy, really hate all the anti-Mayo crap from so-called supporters of our club.

Get back in your deathbed! I hope you are feeling better.

The best game Mayo has had in years was in midfield at Southampton.

Good point that.

It's been a while since he's played the role, but i don't think it would be tragic to see him there. He's not as bad as everyone makes out, he just lacks pace.

I think he can do a decent job in midfield, he has in the past, and he's certainly not as much of a liabilty as he when hes up against a quick winger at left back.

Never seemed to be a problem with Hammond, whose departure has sparked so much debate on here. :jester:

Didn't Kerry start his career at the club as a midfielder anyway? Regrettably I won't be there on Satdi but I only hope that if it doesn't go well the new players' first impression of a home game isn't a bunch of supporters who only make a noise when they're booing them.

As for Black Country Seagull's comment about McFaul, I'm going to assume that's a joke? Otherwise it goes onto the long and inglorious list of people having a pop at a new player on NSC before he's even kicked a ball in anger for the club...

agreed - and then mcghee put him back at left back!

at least in midfield he cant do as much damage as he does at left back. my only concern would be that thomson has so far appeared to be a defensive midfielder, and having mayo alongside him in there is going to make us very defense minded in the middle of the park

Mayo? You've got to be joking! Why not give Scott Chamberlain a run out? He has looked class whenever I've seen him play for the reserves. And if we're not careful Mayo will have made enough appearances to have warranted a new contract next season. Knowing DK, he's probably offered Kerry another year linked to one or two first team games (just kidding).

And there's the issue. It's quite easy to look good for the reserves. Another matter entirely to slot in to midfield for the first team.

I think from the options available that Mayo would not be a bad choice. Only problem for me is that the first time he makes a mistake the crowd are on his back, when they forgive it for some better-loved yet more error-prone colleagues.

We cant keep just throwing kids in.

Its a total recipe for disaster, they are kids who have come through a league 1 clubs youth set up, the likely hood that most of them are up to league football is extremely slim.

This puts our failure to sign anyone yesterday into context - it was HUGE. There are people who are happy to put up with second best so long as the club survives, and whilst I don't agree with that I do respect it. Mayo is taking the piss though. He's not second best, he's not even third best. He's not good enough at left-back, and hasn't been for many years, and he's even worse in midfield. He's too slow, not mobile enough, can't pass, can't tackle, and can't get forward. His only quality is that he'll try. Well f*** me but if that's the only requirement for getting a game in this team then let me play. How sad that still, five years after he was last good enough for league football, we're having to revert to him again. Sorry if anyone doesn't like that, I don't care what you say, the proof will be where Mayo goes this summer - Blue Square League.

On the plus side, and it is a very small plus side, with my two moan-targets (Revell and Hammond) gone, Mayo's inclusion does at least fill that void:thumbsup:

I'd actually have Mayo in midfield, an experienced player might do us good although I am one of the select fans of Martot.

I remember watching that televised game against Wolves in the Sports Cafe in London when he was running up the wing and putting crosses in like Beckham.

Mayo is a genius going forward, can't wait to see him there tomorrow.
