For everyone that's been giving the Ginger Prince stick, here's his verdict on his own performance on Saturday (from an interview on givemefootball.com).

"I had what was probably my worst game for about four years against Norwich last week and got substituted after 60 minutes. In fact, I think I'd have walked off if I hadn't been dragged off, it was that bad!"

Nobody is doubting that, but is he good enough for this level and to fit in with the more attacking style that we have adopted?

I think the current style is certainly not a help to Mayo. Good enough at this level when playing 5 at the back but is getting exposed with the current formation.

He's my favourite player, and has been since I saw him score two away at Notts County a few years ago... Must have been heartbreaking for him to miss out on the Play Off final after all the service he's given the club....

A real footballer's footballer. He his the first to admit when he as a bad game and the first to help others when they need it. He may or may not be up to this level anymore but he his a true Brighton player and we have been lucky to have him over the years, and will miss him when he goes.

That's hit the nail on the head I think. A few of our more limited players have survived in the past because of the battling qualities of the entire team. Once you start increasing the skill level in the side and place less emphasis on grinding out results, by playing wingers for instance, it's pretty much inevitable the less talented players will be more exposed.

Although, IMHO, that's certainly not a reason to slag any of them off. They've given great service through the years, and providing they are fully committed and playing to the best of their ability, why criticise?

You cannot criticise their commitment, but if their lack of ability is costing us points through their mistakes, they are going to get questioned and more than likely criticised.

It's a mixed picture - he's pretty decent on the ball coming forward but lost his place to Harding because there was some doubt about his defensive covering. Nothing has changed really on that, you still get a mixed bag with Kerry.

McGhee blamed him for the second Norwich goal but every defender we've fielded this season has made at least one goal-conceding error, so that has to be borne in mind and Mayo not punished or scapegoated more than other players making the same mistakes.

True.
Nobody slated McShane for his own goal.
