The deal with Richards was reportedly turned down as we could not agree to his personal terms (i.e. his wages).

Given that he has 6 months left on his contract at Ipswich he is likely to be available for a pretty reasonable fee (c.£50k). Whilst we know he is not knocking on Fabio Capello's door to displace Ashley Cole I think from what we have seen from him over the last 18 months we can agree he is a reasonable player for League 1. Add to this he clearly has no issue in coming to play for us (unlike the League 1 player who has just turned us down) and I am getting confused.

We were apparently prepared to pay c£100k more than we would need to for Richards for a League 1 left back (whom I am assuming would be of a similar standard to Richards). Therefore this would suggest that;

(a) Richards' wage demands are completely ridiculous (i.e. that it is going to be substantially more than the £100k differential in the fee);
(b) Adams thinks Richards is rubbish;
(c) Adams thinks McNulty was tremendous value at £150k; or
(d) Richards has been luring players wives back to the Holiday Inn and disrupting the rest of the team with his goading over the fact he is now only 3 wives/girlfriends short of a full set.

was thinking about starting a simular thread myself. Surely we are not going back to the days of having no-one to play at left back or Mayo ffs. Richards is the future!

I read somewhere that he was 1 of our highest wage earners and that we were only paying a third of it so that would mean that he is on approx 3 x the majority of players at our club. It must however be remembered that when he signed his latest contract as Ipswich he was the current England U21 left back and agreat prospect doubtr he would be offered that much anywhere now.

He holds all the cards. There is no point in him rushing to sign up on a reduced wage.

other than the fact that this has happened before while we wanted him on loan he waited in case another club came in for him .............they did'nt and we had him on loan again and I suspect the same will happen again unless he see's out his contract with Ipswich.
