Sanchez - 6 Our keepers don’t save penalties, fine but the glove to Burn needed to be harder in another direction.

Webster - 8 MOM His now obligatory cross bar smash was accompanied by a wonder block in the box and great attacking surging runs and mostly immaculate passing.

Dunk - 7 Missed out on MOM by inextricably allowing the cross to come in for Wolves opener. Why?

Burn - 1 Scores a single point for having the balls to stay on the pitch and not sub himself.

Veltman - 7 Thought he had a very good game all round. Great positioning and a few good tackles.

Bissouma - 6 Was doing fine until he got the card and subsequent ban. Potter then removed him in case he saw red. Great management.

White - 5 Nice crisp passing but lost his man yet again leading to a goal.

March - 7 Pretty good most of the game. Threatening Wolves a lot with his positioning and running. Needs to keep learning about the art of defending though.

Maupay - 8 Huge French balls to take that penalty after his recent record. Great craft to get the penalty and ran himself into the ground as usual.

Connolly - 8 Great goal and was looking a massive threat with his runs prior to the inevitable injury.

Trossard - 8 Solid game, ref denied him our winner as he touched a diving Wolves defender.

Subs:

Pröpper - 7 Looked back to his best for us. Maybe it’s the haircut or the arrival of the transfer window?

Zeqiri - 6 Very useful actually. Just missed that cutting edge and should have tapped in a rebound.

Lallana - 7 Really controlled our direction of ply very well from midfield. I’d like to see him score one day.

Potter - 8. What a fight back after his misplaced confidence in Burn. Webster will be back playing that position I’m afraid.

I agree with pretty much all of this.

On White, I’d echo what one of the commentators said: he risks being a Jack of all trades but master of none. As with all his midfield performances, he rarely puts a foot wrong from open play, but from what I see he doesn’t get the ball and then drive forward looking to put us on the attack. Very often he’ll tap it backwards. In the second half Trossard and even Maupay were having to come so far deep to get the ball when really White should be the one getting it and then driving forward. Lallana showed what a natural midfielder brings to the table when he came on.

I’m not blaming Ben because really he should be a CB and a game like this showed how useful it is to have somebody so versatile when sudden formation changes are required. However, his versatility does come with drawbacks for me.

On Potter: his use of substitutes today should definitely be applauded and the second 45 minutes was a very, very good managerial display. However, conceding three goals when half the outfield are natural CBS (Dunk, White, Webster, Veltman and Burn) highlights that isn’t working. I do concede his life will be a heck of a lot easier when Lamptey returns!

Sanchez - 6 Couldn't do anything about any of the three goals. Had nothing else to do

Veltman - 7 Like his consistancy, intelligence and calm
Webster - 6 Good game except a couple of very dangerous sideways/back passes that nearly cost us.
Dunk - 8 Very good
Burn - 3 Can't fault him for own goal, but the penalty was bad. He had three chances outside the box to foul him and finally fouled him in the box.
March - 5 One of his weaker games.
Bissouma - 6 Decent but a little more angry/less effective than usual
White - 6 Performed his jobs reasonably well.
Trossard - 6 Decent game from him. Went missing from time to time but also scored a goal that should have counted. Had 2 assists, although corners should not count as an assist.
Connolly - 6 Great job getting to the end of Trossard cross and nice bicycle kick but little else.
Maupay - 6 Plays a lot better as a striker than when he plays behind the striker
Propper - 8 Nice nice 45 minutes. Reminded us why he was the first name on the roster last three years. Calm, controlled display and should be a permanent partner to Bissuma.
Zequiri - 6 Has talent but needs to be loaned out for at least 6 months somewhere where he can play every week. Get used to pace of English football and come back ready to compete. We can't afford to have him get used to it during actual PL games. Same thing applies to Connolly even though he had a decent game today.
Lallana - 5 We are forcing him into the line up. Nothing special today.

Sanchez 5- Bad time to have his worst performance so far now the window is open and we are being linked with other keepers. Poor on the second particularly and just looked nervy.

Veltman 6- Good defensively but offers nothing going forward, probably because he CLEARLY ISNT A WING BACK.

Dunk 7- Good performance but marked down for the first

Webster 7- Looked comfortable on the ball, fantastic tackle in the box in the second half as well. Looks like he is getting his confidence back.

Burn 0- Hung out to dry again. No point commenting.

March 6 Seemed a bit subdued going forward compared to most of his games this season, probably because he kept getting moved about.

White 5 I just don't get what he is meant to bring to a two-man midfield. Is there something in his contract that means he has to play every game so Potter ends up shoehorning him in? The experiment has to stop.

Bissouma 5- Walking red card. Potter made the right call bringing him off.

Maupay 6.5- Drifted in and out of the game but much improved. Big balls taking the pen, fairplay.

Connolly 6.5 Nice finish, good work rate as always. Hopefully taken off as a precaution but didn't look that way.
Trossard 7 Brilliant play for the first, very unlucky to have had one ruled out. Again, much much better than recent performances.

Pröpper 7 We have missed him a lot in the middle, so composed and smooth on the ball. If White plays in the middle over him again I am going to be fairly annoyed

Lallana 5- Quiet.

Zeqiri 5- Hmm. Looks enthusiastic and works hard but clearly missing some important elements of his game (composure particularly). Probably needs a Championship loan.

a galaxy far far away
Sanchez - 6 - That punch for the own goal, he could do that 100 times again and not get that result. Unlucky. Also a couple of decent crosses claimed
Veltman - 4 - My 8 y/o turned to me after 30 mins and asked "is there anyone we could bring on instead of Veltman?" Obviously not a RWB. Likely to get a chance at centre back now
Dunk - 6 - Fantastic tackle on Traore in the box
Webster - 7 - MOM - Some wayward passing, but looking a real threat when carrying the ball. In the box though. Header it down Adam. Header it down.
Burn - 2 - Found lacking for pace as we as technique. Traore murdered him. Horror show
March - 5 - Wolves nullified him with the new and innovative tactic of ....showing him on his right
Bissouma - 5 - Met his match in the middle against two very good players. Couple of well earned weeks off for you Biss
White - 5 - Showed a good positional awareness, was better without the ball in midfield. Needs to pick a position and learn it
Trossard - 7 - Buzzed and threatened. More of this please Leandro. Oh, but if you keep your hand off defenders, then you don;t give the ref a chance to blow against you
Connolly - 7 - Great strikers finish, found space well. Stupendous overhead kick. Mixed bag though, a couple of cock ups in possession, but overall encouraging
Maupay - 5 - Still something not right about him.

Propper - 5 - Some lovely short passes, but not threatening enough going forward and looks short of match fitness. Will likely slide down the pecking order
Lallana - 4 - Same as Davy. Obvious technique and skill. Should be using it further up the pitch. More output needed from him
Zeqiri - 5 - Some positives. But simply must score the chance. Need an experienced player to put those (at this level) easy chances away

Sanchez - 6. Possibly could have done better with the OG, but no chance with the others. The low save % continues though, despite the change of GK, which suggests it’s actually about the number of big chances we give up from our sh*t defending.

Veltman - 6. He’s not a RWB. A decent, tidy, RB, nothing more or less.
Webster - 8. Sooner or later, some on NSC are going to have to admit they were wrong. Been very good for a number of games now.
Dunk - 7. Interesting he looked so much more comfortable when we went to a back 4.
Burn - 1. What can you say. I’ve supported him in the past but that was a shocker. He gets 1 for agreeing to play LB instead of telling Potter he’s a f***wit for putting a slow 6’7” CB against Traore. Please god can we bring in the Polish LB so he can just be the back up CB he always should have been.
March - 6. Did a good job defensively. One very good cross. But just doesn’t create as much as he should. Lacks composure in final third.

White - 6. Some harsh scores on here. Played out of position twice in the same game. Got on top of Traore when he went to LB. but, and please Potter take note, he is NOT a midfielder.
Bissouma - 6. Worst game for a while. Also one of few to play all 3 games over Xmas. Those two facts likely related.
Trossard - 6. Did OK. Good cross for first goal and finally delivered a decent corner.
Maupay - 6. Best game for some time.
Connolly - 6. Nice finish, ran hard, but he’s not yet at the stage he can lead the line for a Premier League team with any sort of ambition.

Propper - 8. Turned the game. A 45 mins that should be required viewing for those who don’t rate him:
Zeqiri - 5. Miss was a shocker. Will need time but certainly doesn’t look the saviour of our season.
Lallana - 6. As usual, tidy. But has one assist all season. Does he really do enough?

Subs worked well. Burn left exposed after we went to a four and March was switched to the right.

If Burn gets a 5, just how bad would a performance need to be to get lower than that?! I don’t entirely blame him, as Potter has continued to play him out of position, but that was as comically bad a performance as you can imagine. At one stage in the second half (having scored a preventable OG and given away a penalty in the first), he managed within the same 5 minutes to head a ball in their box completely in the wrong direction, get skinned and booked, and then passed the ball straight out of play under no pressure. It was like watching a Sunday League player who’d won a competition to play in a Premier League game.

Pretty much as I saw it. Veltman is not a wing back. He gets caught upfield too often leaving us vulnerable at the back. Looked really good doing the basic defending when we changed shape.
Other than the miss I thought Zeqiri played ok. Certainly will get better but needs time.
Propper is better further forward and will be needed with Bissouma being banned for a game.

Sanchez 5 Didn't actually have too much to do. Was generally solid but will be one of several players disappointed with their role in the O.G

Webster 8: Thought he played really well. He looked the equal of Dunk having a good game.
Dunk 8: Played well.
Burn 3: Not his night either defensively or offensively. Doesn't deserve the vitriol that will and has come his way. He's a player who always tries his best.
Veltman 6: did as good a job as you could reasonably expect a centre half playing at right wing back.
Bisouma 5: Not his best game. Got booked and was another player who should have done better with the O.G. Should have got across to cover March but didn't thus allowing the cross to come in.
White 6: Pretty sure it was White who lost Saiss behind him. Other than that had a decent enough game playing in both central midfield and left back.
March 6: Looked better going forward than backward. At least offered some support to Burn bt will be disappointed with his role in the own goal, letting the Wolves player come inside onto his stronger foot far too easily.
Trossard 7: Couldn't do much more going forwards - two assists and a goal (incorrectly IMO) disallowed. Not noticable when we didn't have the ball.
Connolly 7: Looked sharp, got a goal, nearly scored a worldie. Shame he got injured, hopefully it's nothing serious.
Maupay 7: Maupayed his way through the game.

Subs:
Zeqiri 6: Worked hard. Doesn't look to have the touch or composure yet to be a regular.
Propper 7: Good to see him back.
Lallana 6: Always nice to see him on the pitch. Didn't have a major impact but wasn't on the pitch that long.

How does he get lower than a five!? If you watched some of the football we played in the past you would know how much worse a performance can get :ffsparr:
Burn was poor. He made a few costly errors. Five is a BAD score for a premier league player.

If Burn was poor he should have got no higher than a 4..thats the rating for ' poor ' In my opinion..he could get anything from 1 -4.as he was the prime reason we didn't win..together with Sanchez and Potter..who left him exposed.
For reference..the football media mark as follows...
4...Poor
5....Below Average
6....Average
7....Good
8.....Very Good
9....Excellent
10...Out of this World

Don’t try and play the super fan card. I was there at Withdean.
That was far worse than ‘poor’. Off the top of my head:
- heading straight out for a corner under no pressure (led to goal)
- ludicrously poor challenge for penalty
- comedy own goal when quicker feet would have allowed him to hook it away
- miscontrolled March’s cross when we had a great chance to score
- headed in completely wrong direction to send one of our attacks out of their box :ffsparr:
- passed out of play down the left under zero pressure
- allowed Traore to run completely around him and then had to pull him back to get booked (the point Potter finally realised he had to hook him).

And that’s just off the top of my head. I’m sure someone tech savvy could splice together a ‘highlights’ video. It’s the worst individual performance from a Brighton player I’ve seen since we reached the PL, barring perhaps Locadia and some ‘cameos’ from Ali J.

Sanchez - 6 Should have done better with the 2nd
Veltman - 6 Ok but really missing Tariq
Webster - 7
Dunk - 8 More like the old Dunk
Burn - 4 Hung out to dry but then had a stinker as well
White - 6 Get him back at CB
Bissouma - 5 Could have been lower. One of those games when our best player just wanders about
March - 7
Trossard - 7 Better
Connolly - 7.5 Much better
Maupay - 6

Propper - 7 Good
Zeqiri - 6 Ouch that miss
Lallana - 6

Potter 3 How you could make the mistake with Burn again is beyond me. You should have learnt this lesson ages ago, the rest of us have. If we see it again we will know you don't own your mistakes to learn from them.

Yes that’s been the industry standard for years.

I’ve probably highlighted this before but Portsmouth for their youth teams, used to go with out of 5 per half, with ‘3’ being average.

1) no Burns performance was not the worst in living memory. It was sub par. But he did a lot of thigngs right as well.
2)the performance was, on the whole, good. People are way to ready to jumpt to 3s etc when we don't win.

First ‘3’ I’ve awarded for a long time.

I’m struggling to work out, why Burn was would be worth more. Incidentally, I scored White low as well, as I though he was poor.

Fiveways
Sanchez 6 -- could have done better for their second, I'm sure he'll learn from it, reassuring apart from that.
Veltman 6 -- did a job as best as he could. If we're going to play wing backs without Tariq (which is questionable in my view), I'd rather we played Alzate at RWB
Webster 8 MotM
Dunk 7.5
Burn 3 -- I like him, and he's a model pro, and really puts a shift in. That said, a shocking game. I'll particularly highlight the penalty, and that awful header that gifted them a corner (why is it that we concede so many needless corners when we're not very good at defending them) which led to their second
March 7 -- solid, looked dangerous in the more advanced position
Bissouma 5 -- not at his best, conceded too many free kicks when on a yellow
White 5 -- too many backward passes as a CM, good versatility
Trossard 8 -- best game in ages, two assists, one incorrectly ruled out goal, great creativity. Hopefully this signals a sustained period of form.
Connolly 7 -- a deft finish, and a wondrous connection, good running
Maupay 7.5 -- great character, especially given he's seemed out of sorts of late.

Propper 7 -- great to see him back displaying his class
Zeqiri 5 -- good first touch, not entirely convinced by what followed
Lallana 6

Sanchez 6.5

Webster 7.5 thought it was a good stop but he did palm it back into danger zone
Dunk 8 possibly could have stopped the cross for their equaliser. Great header by Saiss though
Burn 4 won a corner when Traore slipped...YEAH
Veltman 7 solid
Bissouma 6
White 6.5
March 7 not his best but still quite positive
Trossard 7 good
Connolly 7.5
Maupay 7.5

Bit harsh? First touch was a lovely guided headed to Maupay that became an assist. Also, cleared the way for Dunk to equalise with a subtle foul to pull back the defender. Therefore, contributed directly to two goals. Regardless of what else he did that's not a 5 shirley!
