flinders 9 - top performance today

mayo 7 - he gets alot of stick on here but he played really well today
lynch 6 - quite quiet overall for me , didn't go anything wrong mind
Butters 7- an ok game , again didn't really seemed to get involved as much as he does
rehman 7- alot better then the last time we had him ,showed some strength and was waiting for the goal kicks when they were floating out of play

el abd 6- quiet overall
cox 7- made sure he was in the right place at the right time every time
Robinson 8- liked him out on the flank now , it works well , also his crosses and corners actually make it to the box! why didn't we work this out before
Bertin 8- really good player, who the club if possible should do everything (sensible) within their power to keep him

Revell 8- unlucky not to score his chances he had , seems to be linking more with the midfield and not shy of running down the flank for his chances
Savage 9 a few slips but overall his showed the class today , had an inkling it would be him to do the business for us today

Yeah, I thought that the ref was going to book Bas, he was finishing off the moonwalk and milking the applause from the Albion fans...all the rest of the players were pretty much back in our half waiting to re-start the game. Liked the way that he patted the ref on the back as they wandered back to the half way line...but to give their right back the man of the match when he had marked the player who scored both of the goals, bizarre at best.

Fair play to the ref, the vast majority of others would've booked him for over celebrating. This is what footy should be about, having fun and enjoying the game.

Mayo is a stalwart of the club, but we really need to bring someone in for that position as i don't think Kerry cuts it anymore. He gets done for pace most of the time, Brentford being a prime example of how disastrously wrong it can go. He gets caught out of position as he seems to enjoy drifting into the middle, but not realising that the opposition have worked into his space and are setting up another attack. His distribution is pretty poor and though i know the wind was a factor, he didn't seem to take that into account when taking throw ins in the first half as two of them just flew out as he chucked them too high.

He had a much better second half today and had the confidence to try a trick or two to out fox the attackers, but we were 2-0 up and Northampton had had the stuffing knocked out of them.

First game I have seen in ages and first time I have seen Bas and Bertin play.

I thought El Abd was excellent - he broke up everything in midfield and actually in the 2nd half got in a couple of excellent positions down the right where we had some joy.

Revell and Bas worked tirelessly and were always going to come into it when we had the wind at our backs.

Lynch frustrates me sometimes. Looks composed at times but has a touch of the "Rio" about him being lazy at times. Trying a nutmeg 2 yards from the penalty area is not my idea of the "percentages".

Butters was solid when the ball is in the air but in the 2nd half got in positions where the ball bounced and then people ran on to it and he looked weak then.

Robinson and Cox, not hugely impressed although they looked like they could do something.

Thought Bertin improved as the game went on - looked lightweight in the first half but looked better when he tried to put his foot on the ball.

Is it justb me because i'm drunk or is there double standards here? If our players dont get 10/10 every game they're shit? but if they do get 10/10 evry game the board are shit because they waanna sell em for big money?

Northampton player ratings

Flinders 7: Did not have much to do, but made smart save at end of match and looks very confident
Rehman 7: Got forward a lot on the right, defended solidly
Mayo 6.5: Distribution a bit dodgy, but very composed on the ball.
Butters 7: Mr Dependable does it again.
Lynch 7.5: Used his pace on a couple of occasions to get us out of a hole. Sometimes a bit too flash for his own good.
Robinson 4/6.5. First half anonymous, and did not relish any hard tackles, much better second half apart from missing easy chance.
Cox 5: Very quiet by his standards
Bertin 6.5: Quite sneaky the way he always leaves a foot in, cannot jump for headers to save his life, but protects the back four very well.
El Abd 6: Defensively throws himself at everything, but not creative.
Savage 8: Did not do a huge amount apart from score two goals, but that is what we pay him for. Quality moonwalk.
Revell 6: Never looked like scoring, but had a hand in both goals and chased around like a puppy with a toy bone.

Subs:

Fraser 6.5: Not a left sided player, but made a decent contribution.
Gatting 5: Not on long enough to form an opinion.

Was it only me that thinks Savage was possibly one our worst players on the pitch, he couldnt control the ball, he couldnt pass it either

the best bit was when he was running down the touchline, tried to do some trick, but the fell over, but fell over in stages - was a funny fall

i love him, he got 2, the celebrations were brilliant and he is a cult legend - but 8's and 9'ss out of 10, MOM - i think not

Flinders was my MOTM - very confident keeper and I look forward to seeing that save at the end.

Still not convinced the 2nd goal was Bas - think it was an OG.

Still he scored and he looked good.

Theory time - the big lad does lose his footing from time to time, is it because he has shortened studs to do the moon walk ?

He's never going to look technically brilliant as he has a clumsy gait, but I thought he played well and confused their defenders well.

I found these comments on the Northampton board which sums it up for me (re: the game not just Savage)

Another good gate another team above us ..... and what do we do ..... play bloody awful ..... Crying or Very sad
Gray blames the wind ..... but wasn't it windy for them .... ?
Our delivery was awful again .... corners ...free kicks ... passing .... poor old Doc all on his own up front .... the games was over a soon as they scored ..... Dire ....
Out sung .... out passed .... out tackled .... out shot ..... out scored and out classed ..... rubbish ....

It was Revell's but Baz added a touch to it, Nugent style.

They were awful though - didn't they blast one six yard chance out of the ground ?
