As anal and trivial as this is going to sound - When you place your groceries on the supermarket checkout conveyor is it your responsibility to place the plastic divider in front of your stuff or behind it. Personally I only ever place it behind, the rationale being that if the person in front of me who has been too lazy to put the divider behind their shopping wants my stuff rung up with theirs then that's their issue.

It's an important topic folks, your input could make or break this festive season.

Hmmm...but it then inevitably BECOMES your issue, because as your stuff is put through by mistake, the person in front will then go "hang on hang on, thats HIS stuff", and the till girl will have to go back and remove whatever she rung up of yours onto the other persons shopping. Not only are you delaying the person in front, but you are also delaying yourself, and whoever is behind you.

The next time someone in front of you doesn't bother putting the plastic divider down behind their shopping, I suggest you just save everyone the time and effort by simply smashing them in the FACE.

I would put the front divider down as well if I had to, and depending on my mood I would either give them a cheeky grin to say "silly silly, you forgot (in a camp way)" or if I was feeling more moody I would glare slightly and try and make them feel like a rude idiot for not putting it down.

I was in Tesco the other day and bought two little packs of beer and a bottle of malt. The girl on the check-out asked me "Do you need help packing that", bloody hell, do I look that helpless that I couldn't put three objects into a bag myself? I wouldn't have said no if she'd offered to help drink it though!

Tesco do seem to have cornered the market in dumb questions, has to be said. Present yourself at the counter of Tesco Express with a basket groaning with overpriced goodies and you always get the 'would you like a bag?' bit. At which point you always feel like saying 'Nah, you're all right mate, I'll just juggle them all the way home'.

Working in a supermarket, it is handy when all the food is separated with dividers, otherwise you get the inevitable, 'that's not my stuff, mate'. Cashier has other things to worry about, and is more than likely bored senseless with having to repeat the same things over and over again (especially at xmas, when sat on a till for 4 hours!)

There are so many other things to include under 'supermarket etiquette'!

I think "trolley etiquette" is a far more important topic, now that really winds me up, people leaving their trolley right in the middle of the aisle, kids being put in charge of the trolley etc...

When someone does not put the divider behind their selected items for purchase, I tend to spit at them and then issue a headbutt (depending on their size). I don't like to make an issue of it though.

Word.

It especially annoys me when people put their trolleys across the isle, rendering it impossible to reach what you want. Or when people use their trolleys to barge through - deliberately hitting other people.

I wonder what would happen if next time somebody deliberately rammed me with a trolley, I grab the other end of the trolley and ram them back? I may try this approach and see what happens.

Another thing that annoys me is when someone has queued at a checkout with a trolley full of produce, but keep nipping away to get something else. I do not wish to spend more time than I have to in a Supermarket and he/she is adding at least 5/10 minutes to my agony, when I could have been in the queue before them.

Sometimes I get some ham priced and bagged up from the deli, but then when I walk away and see how much it is, I leave it on a shelf somewhere else and buy a packet of the processed stuff instead.

I am never comfortable doing this, and always do it out of sight of the person who served me on the deli.

I read in a newspaper once (can't remember which one - could have been the Mail) that the correct etiquette is to place the divider after your shopping.

It's more important not to have an under 18 serving you if you are buying booze and to remember your own bags if, like me, you find it impossible to open the cheap bags they provide!

Tesco now knock 1p off your bill for every bag of theirs you bring with you and re-use to pack your shopping. Now if THATS not a good enough incentive, I just don't know what is.

And Sainsbo's give you an extra Nectar point per bag!

I don't know. Decisions, Decisions................

:lolol: I do not know what came over, by jove.

In actual fact, I tend to put dividers on both sides if they are absent. The other shoppers say 'thanks' and I say 'My pleasure'.

I have become a bit of a creep on the tubelines and offer my seat to any lady (unless butt ugly - does that make me a bad person?) or elderly person that is unseated.

My Prep School headmaster taught me the 3 C's at an early age. Care, courtesy and commitment.

So if I brought 1000 Tesco bags with me to the checkout would they give me a tenner?
