Martina Hingis has admitted she is under investigation for a positive test for cocaine at this year's Wimbledon.
The 27-year-old Swiss star was speaking in Zurich as she announced her retirement for the second time on Thursday.

"I have tested positive but I have never taken drugs and I feel 100% innocent," Hingis said in a statement.

"The reason I have come out with this is because I do not want to have a fight with anti-doping authorities."

She added: "Because of my age and my health problems I have also decided to retire from professional tennis."

The five-time Grand Slam champion told a news conference she failed a drugs test during this year's Wimbledon.

Hingis first retired in 2003 because of persistent injuries before returning to top-flight tennis at the start of 2006 and winning three more titles. She brought her season to a premature end last month because of hip problems but had vowed to return to action.

Hingis ended 2006 ranked seventh in the world and is currently number 19.

Hardly performance enhancing I'd have thought - at least as far as tennis is concerned!

Are you inferring that she is a LADYBOY, perhaps called MARTIN?

It does however explain why Steve Coppell has taken an interest in tennis though this summer.

Listening to her talk..definite coke freak.

I played boules with a French policeman this summer, he was my partner in an Anglo French boules competition (we were losing finalists don't you know!!!??) who was insistant that EVERY competitive sport was addled with drug abusers. He reckoned a Tour de France where anything goes in the performance enhancing stakes would be 10 times better than the sham that happens at the mo. I think he may well have been right.

Poor old Martina. She must feel like she's been stabbed in the back

I saw Martina and Kournikova playing in the doubles in the Australian Open. What a day that was :p

The poor girl, she is just soooo innocent, she won't even challenge the charges. You must be so incredibly innocent to do that.

Shame - saucy little minx, tennis is the loser. One of the few overtly heterosexual women players, and a serious party girl. Ah well. Back to Amelie Mauresmo.
