For a number of reasons, this song always brings a tear to my eye. Thank you for sharing this version, I probably wouldn't have heard it otherwise.

Fabulous track in any guise, always brings a tear to my eye for whatever reason

I became an instant Dire Strait fans when I saw Sultans of Swing on the OGWT the first time, bought the album the next day. Grabbed tix when they played The Dome soon afterwards. They became as uncool as Coldplay once they went mega but I am still a fan of both.

Well of course. The original is saxophone-led. Nothing is better than sax (unless you're doing it wrong).

I like the new version, though. For me it's one of the all-time great riffs and I can listen to variations on a theme for a long time before getting bored of it. Not quite Pachelbel's Canon, but close.

I saw Dire Straights at the Brighton Centre in the early 80s, they played this as the final song, It started first with just Knopfler on guitar then gradually the other instruments were brought in to end the instruments were unplugged one at a time leaving just Knopfler. Just brilliant
