The kind people
Have a wonderful dream
Margaret on the guillotine
Cause people like you
Make me feel so tired
When will you die ?
When will you die ?
When will you die ?
When will you die ?
When will you die ?

And people like you
Make me feel so old inside
Please die

And kind people
Do not shelter this dream
Make it real
Make the dream real
Make the dream real
Make it real
Make the dream real
Make it real

Oh good. A chance to cut and paste the lyrics to some musical dirges to make people seem deep and meaningful. All the better if they are lyrics from people who took the chance to make loads of money in the 80s, but made it seem "yoof" by dressing it up as agitpop before retiring to their mansions. Are there no songs for the 30-somethings to post about having their milk taken away from them?

Anybody got the address to a half-decent Levellers website so I can join in - at least they retained some credibility....

f*** the miners when it was my job that was in jeopardy, I cared more about my situtation than theirs as they showed that they did the same. Tough shit it's a tough world. The unions and their practices and their greed were their own worst enemies. Had they not been trying to hold the country to ransome as they so often did then Thatcher or someone like Hitler would not have been needed. So much of British industry committed suicide by forcing people to look elsewhere for a better and cheaper product.

If you think it greedy to try and keep jobs so that communities may continue to exist then the miners where indeed big fat Billy Bunters. Hitler and Thatcher you mention in the same sentence I see.......................... you`ve won this one Frankie baby.

The question is, would she have allowed us to be involved in the invasion & occupation of Iraq? I like to think she would have told Bush what to do & not lick his arse like Blair did, which was to involve us in probably the biggest clusterfuck in our history.
Some things she did upset the socialists, obviously, but nothing she ever did was as downright criminal as this Labour government have done in our name.

It's so right on to hate Thatcher; but look what her opposition have done to us.

Couldn't stand the woman when she was in power - mainly because of the bastard poll tax cock up.
However as soon as she went one realised that she DID engender some feelings albeit negative ones. There was very little that was grey about Thatcher - you loved her or hated her. Since Thatcher we've had grey one, the grinning buffoon and the dour Scottish one who's currently f*cking up the country - all of which have taken any feelings that we may have had about that word in front of the nation's name - yes that's the one GREAT Britain - and rubbed them into the dirt. Under Thatcher we had some pride - we've little of that left now. Can you see Thatcher cosying up to Bush like B.Liar did and sending our troops into Iraq - no me neither.

Thatcher is responsible for destroying many industries in this country. Factories closed down. Even the sweatshops didn't survive and the work went overseas because of greed. Unemployment was over 3 million before they start massaging the figures. To get in touch with the working classes she let them buy their council houses and then tried to screw them with the introduction of the poll tax. Only got a 2nd term in office by going to war which turned this country into a state of patriotism not seen since 1966. People became obsessed with personal wealth at all costs and yuppyism spread throughout the population. Her legacy is that the generation of "Thatchers Children" have now spawned the "Asbos" of today as they weren't shown how to respect others in society when they were growing up.

Thatcher cosyed up to Ronald Reagan, who was just as bad, if not worse than Dubya.

Anyway....this is just another chance to dispel the myth from BOF.

Thatcher didn't help end the cold war. The main impetus came from the Soviets, in Gorbachev they realised their system was crumbling, mainly due to a lack of reform during the Brezhnev era when oil revenues were squandered. It didn't matter about the Reagan/Thatcher aggressive stance, the S.U was heading to kaput regardless.

Gorbachev is the man to praise for the end of the Cold War. Like I said, the SU was in a terrible state(for the long term) but some hardliner could have easily tried to go down with a fight, as opposed to relinquishing control of E.Europe like Gorbachev did.

It's just a shame that wanker Yeltsin came along, f***ed everything up, destroyed the notion of democracy in Russia and made it assoicated with petty crooks, mafia bosses and widespread corruption. Had Gorby stayed past 1991, would have been much more beneficial for now..

If it wasn't for Maggie, I wouldn't have a 3 bedroom semi worth £200,000. I'd still be renting a council house.

Maggie and Ronnie - remember ? The US invaded Grenada , a caribbean island part of the British Commonwealth and we did nothing. Although Blair was Bush's poodle , Thatcher was more like Reagan's rottweiler. When she dies there will be street parties and much jubilation.

I'm surprised a three bedroom semi isn't worth more than that these days!

It would be worth more if the scruffy twat tidied up the fridges in his front garden.

Not true! We sent alot of angry coded telegrams.

Ironically around the same time as a NATO training exercise in Europe, and the Soviets thought we were on the verge of a strike against them!

BT decided to modernise telegrams by calling them telemessages in a vain effort against increasing use of facsimile machines in the 1980's. Narrowly avoiding World War 3 wasn't widely known about at the time , if the nuclear missiles had been launched the first time we would have been aware was when we saw the mushroom clouds.

Well on such a screaming match as these kind of threads usually turn into, it's good to read another posters opinion carefully.

Won't ever catch on though!

I remember reacing about telemessages.

I know, few people still know about Able Archer even now. Sometimes it is pointed to as the trigger for the end of the Cold War, ol' Ronnie couldn't believe the Commies actually thought he'd kill them all..

Strange that, considering he called them an evil empire.
