I just really dislike this Chinese whispers-like made-up nonsense that dilutes rational discourse and debate. It pervades so much of our discussion now, with people quick to jump on facts that are not close to being true.

There's plenty to critique this government on without making stuff up.

The response was totally political, a bare handful of Tories found a conscience. Marcus Rashford's actions are merely motivated by a social conscience, we need more people like him.

I genuinely have no idea what you are now doing. Those articles have absolutely nothing to do with the point you made, which I responded to.

I'm not disputing that criticism is due on many elements of our test, track and trace system.

You said that we had paid Serco £12bn on an app when ROI had offered us theirs for free.

1. Serco had nothing to do with our app.
2. Whether ROI offered us theirs or not, is neither here nor there - see above - Serco have nothing to do with it.
3. Serco operate test sites and tracing contact centres - the ROI can't do that for us, and certainly not for free.

Don't let peripheral arguments about who said what cloud the basic point, a pro footballer campaigns for disadvantaged children to have free school meals during the Christmas holiday while a pandemic rips through the country. How can anyone stand against that given the huge amount of money given to employed and self employed people and to business at this time of global crisis ? We are talking a couple of weeks, we are talking about the nations children. I for one am absolutely ashamed.

That's neither bollocks or has anything to do with Marcus Rashford or free school meals.

Size of debt, is not the same as ability to pay debt or deficit. (The difference between output and income) trump owes at least 400 milion and he's not bankrupt, you could be bankrupt (inability to meet obligations) owing 20 grand.

You can double the debt no problem if you can increase ecomonic output or reduce expenditure.

I'm out as this is bear pit, circle jerk, done 4 million times before stuff.

Government were wrong (and I would t be surprised if they backtrack) and Rashford is a decent fella.

The 2008 crash was largely led by septics as I understand . . . . It hit the whole world. Gordon brown got the plasma hot potato. I truly felt for him. The last intelligent prime minister with anything close to good intentions we've had since maybe Major ( dare I say it)

All irrelevant in todays world. If anyone in Government had a brain they'd seize the opportunity, initiate an incentive and with professional footballers onside could be making a huge Difference where it really matters.

Footballers don't come from privileged backgrounds, its not a posh boy sport.

This government embarrasses us on an international stage. They are corrupt, they are liars and they are so useless that they are probably the worst government we will ever see. And to make matters worse, they were elected with a massive majority which suggests our countrymen were too moronic to see this coming. So yes, the state of our country embarrasses me.

My mum was Italian and my dad was English and fought in Burma.

I couldn’t give a f..uck about either of the countries to be honest. It’s hard to get embarrassed on my part.
Maybe I was used to levels of corruption hearing my mums stories so the latest stuff is familiar to me.

I just happened to be born here. I will grant you that this government is probably going to go down in history as the worse ever. I knew in 1992 for definite when Labour lost out that when people in a country talk about ‘togetherness’ just threaten them with an extra penny in the pound tax and they start screaming ‘communist communist’

I'm exactly the same. But it's funny that by being a centrist and just dealing with facts, I always get accused of being "left wing" or a Labour supporter. I think this says a lot about the people who write such stuff....

I thought that I was fairly left wing, partly as I found myself far to the left of some posters on here. I then did a fairly detailed test to which concluded that I was slightly to the left socially and slightly to the right fiscally...

Under the £12bn contract you refer to, Serco are managing a large number of the fixed and mobile testing sites, and they also operate some of the tracing call centres.

Just to put that into context. The cost of a school meal ie. dinner & pudding is around £2.30/£2.50 in Brighton. That doesn't include a drink. The school water fountains are shut off due to covid so if you run out, or forget your water then it's 55p for a 330ml bottle.
