March for the flag. Unexpectedly early report.

I think he got it right, in most countires the national flag is used by patriots, just in some it's also been hijacked by boneheaded cretins of the far right. And Chicken Run's post above is a load of bollocks too. Which far right Cornish group are you referring to?

That's right, this is about the racists (party) using a national flag for its owns means,

I cannot think of another one, yes of course there will a few Welsh, Scotish and probably Cornish anti - English, and yes there is Le Pen in France.

But is it only the Union Kack and the Flag of St. George where a party and its supporters dare to say this is our flag and "there's no black in the union Jack".

I am just after another example and why did we let tis happen in the UK, to a point that the Labour Party, debated for a long long time, whether they should start using the flags again, because of their fear, that the Union Kack and the St. George were seen as symbols of the right.

I do know that if nothing else, the 1996 European Championships, turned the tide, of the St.George flag again being seen as an English flag and not just an emblem of the right wing elements in our society.

Passes the day, you can predict how most threads on this subject are going to end as a slanging match by two polarised sides.

Quite agree, I wonder how many of the people embroiled in childish if somwhat self believing debate on here would be quite so vocal around a debating table without the help of the internet to back up there somwhat trumped up knowledge of the world!!

Back to UB,

The Union Jack was definately used by the racists, during the 60's and 70's whilst it was mainly seen as the "national" flag of England and the UK.

With the growth of Welsh, Scotish and English nationalism, these elements have taken on board the Flag of St. George.

But the racist Blackshirts used both in the 30's and 60's.

Now it is the flag to be seen with. The Union Jack is now old hat!

I have been described as many thngs but girly is not one of them. I suppose if you call being a bit shocked by Sig Heiling and chants like "We want our country back" as girly then that's what I am.

I am surprised you came to that conclusion having never met me.

Maybe it was a typo from LC...

It was originally a typo, but I did quite like it and kept it accordingly.

I identify myself as English and not British and whilst the UJ is the national flag of the UK, I care not fot its connotations, what it represents and look forward to a Jerusalem called England as my home, with the Celts living in their own independent Kingdoms.

Are you really sure it wasn't some loyal Albion fans shouting 'seagulls'..no that would be too silly a mistake to make.
