Loan means more cash for Cucurella I guess.

I’m not bothered tbh, we can’t be too fussy and turn down a decent player and then be left with no one as the window shuts.

This gives us security if we fail to land any LB targets before the window shuts whilst maximising the fee we get.

Back in the day you’d get put to full back as you couldn’t do too much damage and all you had to do was boot the opposing winger in the air. Now it’s almost the most important position on the pitch.

And incredibly, in a kids team, it's the position they all want to play

Well, it's slightly nuts for us but I've been saying that's the price since May. Specialist player covering specialist positionS, four years left on contract and no obvious replacement. When you consider what Wan Bisaka went for and what Citeh spent on an alleged rapist it's not nuts at all. It's market value and Chelsea have had the good grace to pay it. Eventually.

Do you remember when we watched little old Brighton together ?

So you just want rid of OUR player who happens to have been voted player of the year for last season because of gossip, innuendo, hearsay and rumour?

P.S. At the time of me posting this I haven’t heard of any official announcement to state that Marc Cucurella has left to join Man City/Chelsea/Barcelona - take your pick. When, and if, he leaves I’ll offer an opinion rather than react to rumour mongering shit.

Seriously? It’s dragged on too long, he doesn’t want to be at Brighton, so just get rid!

What’s the problem with that?

The little old Brighton we watched had played the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool regularly just four or five years beforehand and had players in and out that included Michael Robinson, Mark Lawrenson and Jimmy Case. Lawrenson was Liverpool's record signing and the most expensive defender in the country at the time.

I know. Sixty five million quid and he's only scored ONE goal, ffs. If I was Tony, I'd be straight down the Abbey National with the cheque as soon as they open tomorrow morning.

Worse, there are now centre backs who aren't that fat and can pass accurately short and long. It's a travesty.

I suspect that SeagullinExile was being facetious

Not really, just gone on too long. Obviously we’d all love to keep him, but he doesn’t want to stay, so time to move on!

He had a great 11 months, but he’ll be forgotten in a year!

Yup.

Nothing shocking about the fee at all. We just got maximum market value.

It’s such a shame that the club did not sign a replacement a month or so ago. Although they’ve paid the big bucks, Chelsea have pulled off a massive coup tonight. They nicked one of the top two or three left backs from under the nose of City whilst getting one of their youth players one of the most coveted loan opportunities in the world. Potter will turn their player into a £50m man by the end of the season and we’ll have paid Chelsea to do it!

I suppose we had no choice if we wanted that £62m cheque.

£55m fee plus £7 M In add ons - total £62 m for a Brighton player - take a breath and let that sink in . We have a decent player to cover the gap for this season in case we can’t find the right player to buy in the next 3 weeks .

£62 Million !

I can't really being myself to wish Chelsea good luck, even if Cucu moved there. So I hope they finish 4th again, and that Cucu is responsible for the goal against Man City that costs them the title in their penultimate game of the season.

How have we paid Chelsea to do it ?

And to think City offered half that at 1st and would never of gone above 40! City's loss and ours to a point and certainly Chelsea's gain

Surely if this is true then we have realised our profit and to date all Chelsea have done is splash the cash for someone that they hope/expect will meet their expectations and dreams. Let’s see how we feel at Christmas

It's difficult isn't it. I didn't mind so much when we sold Ben White to Arsenal, as I still, at that time, didn't seriously think we were actually their rivals. But last season changed that for me. I want to be competing against that bunch now - so it grates to be selling to them.

Well on our way to a record like this:

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-southampton/rekordabgaenge/verein/180

I just hope we’re spending some of it on a left back before September as we no longer have one in the squad. BG will be turning in his grave.

Chelsea have taken our POTS and his long term replacement Sturge in the space of a few weeks. They have also given us a player to develop for them. The money is not of much conciliation now, we have a much weaker squad with Biss and Cucu gone, we have have sold out chance of another top 10 finish.

The ‘new’ Southampton? That’s the way we’re headed.
