course I would. Money is money. You're very quick to judge Yorkie. Maradonna may have had drug problems but he's done a lot for his community.

people were happy for them to invest before they realised what was going on - imagine if it were to happen all over again

Have to say, if its true I'm not happy. Its not just cos he's a cheating druggie either. Neither of these two have any connection with the club whatsoever, so theres no guarantee they'd have the best interests of the club at heart. Ardiles would (presumably) want to be manager, which would be a f***ing disaster. We'd probably end up with a load of South American players in the squad - and how often are they successful in England ?

I sincerely hope this story is complete bullshit. It sounds so far-fetched that I'm still optimistic thats the case.

if they wanted to take over it would turn into a complete disaster - however, if they just wanted to invest money then id be quite happy for it to happen

Money yes, interference no. Depends on what he can bring to the club. If we are going to get a bundle of South Americans on trial, then lets be honest, it may not be a bad thing. I know Ernest wants a team of Englishmen, but it won't happen - so if we are going to get a foot into another market, then it could be a good thing. Not sure how Maradona's ego will work - he likes the chat shows and a lot of self-publicity, which will either be a good thing in generating interest, or will associate us with everything that he fucks up with. I really don't want Ardiles managing us because he has shown that he is neither good, nor loyal. I would rather stay with a manager that has been grown through the English league system, because they should have a better understanding. However, MM's last display of pumping high balls to the smallest strike force in the league was inept and incompetent, so maybe we should be open to more options.

Maybe we are about to hit a period of change again, which is bound to be uncomfortable for a while, but we always come out the other side smiling - eventually!

You don't just invest money without wantnig something back, and certainly not if its a football club you couldn't have given a toss about 2 weeks ago. If this is true, they're eyeing us up purely as a business opportunity, and that just fills me with dread. Firstly, they not businessmen. Secondly, they've never been involved in actually running a football club. Thirdly, in managerial terms, Ardiles was an unmitigated disaster.

Even if Ardiles didn't take over from McGhee, he'd be overseeing things in some capacity or other, I can't believe he'd have no input whatsoever in the playing side and the transfer market. I can't see McGhee operating under those conditions, which would probably mean sooner or later we could well end up with Ossie in charge. My blood runs cold at the thought of that.

PLEASE let this all be bullshit.

I'd be happy to see the money come in but wouldn't be happy with a takeover - not because of their nationality but because, as Easy says, they have no connection with the club. Dick Knight might be a potless herbert, but he's our potless herbert.

Having said that plenty of people invest in football clubs who have no interest in taking it over - look at the huge investment Magnier and McManus made in Manure. Let's hope, that if the rumour's true, they are people who see the potential in the Albion and want a share of it.

Could be that we are being seen as a feeder club for young South American players who wish to play in Northern Europe? They'd have to have European family links in order to play in this country but if we get Falmer we could progress into a good Championship/bottom half Premiership club with the right investment. We've already got Turienzo, we were offered Sergio Torres (now with Wycombe) last year. The people involved in those deals could be involved with this bit of news. It was stated when we signed Turienzo that he was moving here in order to develop and for us and his agent to make a profit on him.

I read that an Entertainment/PR company that Maradona is involved with recently floated on the stock exchange for 100 million quid. Maybe a link here? I know that a similar sort of company owns Corinthians in Brazil and they now operate that club as a sort of breeding ground for the best South American players. They bring them together at Corinthians, develop them there and then sell to European clubs for a good profit.

It's hard to know what's going on without reading the article. If we did act as a feeder club for South Americans I presume they'd have to play first team football. Would McGhee accept being pressured into playing certain players? I don't think so. We could get some right crap but we could end up with someone like Carlos Tevez.

Still it could be a load of old bollocks cooked up to put us in the nationals. Who knows?

also see other thread regarding Turienzo link

The pharse "Once bitten, twice shy" springs to mind.

I know there's a clause that states that no one individual can have control, but presumably two individuals (Ardiles and Maradona) could have control, in much the same way as Dick Knight and Martin Perry do now.

Anyone want to go through the next ten years again?

We have to be VERY VERY careful IMHO.
