Manchester United want to sign 14-year-old American Freddy Adu, described by the News of the World as "the world's hottest teenager".

The paper claims United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has already spoken to Adu's mother and family adviser, saying: "I'm very serious about this boy."

The Ghanaian-born starlet has already signed a £650,000 sponsorship deal with Nike.

Perhaps we could take him on loan?

Pure ability doesn't necessarily mean you'll end up being pro. I used to go to school with a guy who was on Brighton's books, and he was absolute quality - would score a hat trick without even trying, and made the best of the rest of us look rubbish. And that was the thing, he wasn't bothered about it. Brighton wanted to keep him on, but he turned them down because he didn't want to play professionally.
