Don't stay in Valleta is probably the advice.

Went last year, had a great time and didn’t think it was that expensive TBH - comparable with an average European city break. Stayed in St Julian’s, the hotel - Dragonara Resort - was very good (and also full of actors - working on Gladiator 2 I think, Derek Jacobi was in the room opposite ours and Tim McInerny was at breakfast every day looking alone and miserable). Highlight was a (long) day trip to Gozo. Had previously only been to Malta a few times with work to sort out ‘regulatory difficulties’ - was at least on first name terms with the chairman of the MFSC 🤣

My brother and his wife own an apartment in St Paul’s - inherited from my SIL’s dad a couple f years ago when he sadly passed away. We’ve stayed in it once … a decent apartment, but not the best of locations for us. Fortunately there’s a decent bus service which we used every day.

We are heading back to Malta in October for a few days for the Birgufest light festIval - staying in Birgu itself.

Just far enough away from LDC

We ate in Cafe Jubilee Valletta - food and service was excellent. Really interesting decor - a 1920/30s bistro vibe. Although I did feel a bit intimidated with this thing staring right at me 😱
