Major Richard Winters passes away aged 92

For fans of the tv series 'Band Of Brothers' & the daring escapades of Airbourne troops during world war II the man that inspired Damien Lewis's character in the series has passed away

A true hero & brave leader in every sense of the word, Loved & respected by the men who served under him. And in later life a very successful man.

How sad.

I'm a big fan of the book and series Band of Brothers, and this guy (both acted on screen and also written and interviewed in real-life) seemed an absolute hero, and a real decent bloke.

RIP. What a genuine hero he was. That word is bandied around too much these days, but Winters really was that. His skills as a leader, as a soldier and as a fiercely brave individual are something to behold.

I read the book while i was on holiday in Normandy a few years back. We stayed in St Mere Du Mont where they had the famous picture taken in front of the monument. Great place to spend a long weekend and only a couple of hours drive from Dieppe

The most amazing thing about him, I reckon, was that he was 26 when he jumped on D-Day and led his troops

Very sad news. Read a lot about him and the rest of the Band of Brothers after I saw the mini-series. His own memior "Beyond Band of Brothers: The War Memoirs of Major Dick Winters" is a great read although it covers a lot of ground that other books have.

I find it unbelievable that Major Winters never recieved the Medal Of Honour, Truly shocking he didn't really.
They still teach the set piece attack he led at Brecourt Manor at West point as a textbook example of small unit tactics.
