Major embarrassment for Apple

They've been forced to run a printed apology in The Guardian, Financial Times, Daily Mail and a couple of magazines, admitting they were WRONG for labelling Samsung copycats!

If Jobs were alive today he'd be going absolutely APESHIT over this.

Whilst Samsung must be absolutely PISSING THEMSELVES

There has been no direction to how the advert should be worded. Part of the judgement included the following:

"The informed user's overall impression of each of the Samsung Galaxy Tablets is the following. From the front they belong to the family which includes the Apple design; but the Samsung products are very thin, almost insubstantial members of that family with unusual details on the back. They do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design. They are not as cool."

If I were Apple, I'd be making sure that the printed apology included reference that Apple products are cool, and Samsung products are not. We all knew that already, of course, but it's got a legal stamp of approval now.

Apologies - this is actually quite old news. It just bubbled up again yesterday as the latest appeal was heard.

I'll do better next time.

It is a brilliant decision. The victor, while cheering victory has only achieved this through their product being 'not as cool', and therefore not comparable to Apple's beautifully designed product! Samsung must be pissing themselves until they realise what the outcome is actually stating!

I suspect Jobs would be allowing himself a wry smile!

What a wonderful use of English in a legal judgement. Do Apple make judges now too ?

Apple are not cool. Steve Jobs was good at his job but he looked like a pee-stained Geography teacher. With his polo necked pullover tucked into his jeans that were too short appearing onstage to unveil a new phone as if he was talking us through the cure for cancer. They are nicely designed phones. Their ethics and ruthlessness are not cool (unless you happen to be making money from the company).

My thoughts exactly. All rather amusing. Another victory for Apple.

The only real loser in this is Apple however you want to dress it up. They were petty enough to sue Samsung in the first place because the are quite clearly sh*ting themselves at Samsungs huge ascent and market share gains into their core markets. No confident business would resort to trying to stamp out competition like that and it is so off what the Apple brand is supposed to represent its hugely damaging.

Apples NEW products are actually now copying territory where Samsung are already ahead of them. Very serious problem for a company that has all its brand equity in being the innovator.

But let the fan boys convince themselves otherwise.....

Personally I couldn't care less if people thought my products were cool as long as they bought them

But why not have the moon on a stick? Apple have sales and cool.

Apple's "round earphones are sh1t, look at these new ones" advert is amusing, given that the company has probably manufactured more round earphones that any other company in history. But hey ho.

I'm inclined to agree. My Macbook is unspeakably cool, despite its age.

However, looking ahead there is a concern that the cool factor, as well as Apple's reputation for innovation, is waning. They're still cleaning up in terms of sales, but are they creating the groundbreaking devices they once were?
