Interesting that a study done by scientists in Sweden has shown there has been zero cases of a child or teacher catching/spreading coronavirus in school, despite the fact they have kept schools open throughout. The unions demands in this country are starting to look mildly insane.

The Unions are only wanting to see the evidence the government has for re-opening schools particularly given that some areas have a higher R than others. This is reasonable given the outbreak we have just come through. Citing one study is not really evidence on its own. The BMA are cautious about schools re-opening and the NHS today has said it wants evidence from the government about tracing before extra lockdown measures are eased. There is a lot of conflicting information out there and in the end 'The Unions' are representing their members. In my experience, I have never seen such unified views in school from the cleaners up to the heads, and my colleagues (unlike some schools I have worked in) are not politically motivated.

The Daily Mail and Telegraph have been particularly disgusting with their portrayal of teachers. I imagine a lot of teachers who voted Tory (yes there are some), may think twice given the way those two Tory papers have tried to paint teachers in such a terrible light.

I’m confused - perhaps somebody can explain the following:
On the 19th of May Worldometer recorded the UK total cases as 248,818. Yesterday, the 20th May, it recorded the new total to be 248,293. That’s 525 FEWER than the previous day. How is that possible?
Has there been an explanation for the above that I’ve missed?

'Con' Sumption's libertarian arguments could equally be applied to the use of heroin, or drink driving. He defends going to the theatre while possibly infectious on the grounds that everyone else in the theatre knows the risk. Likewise, if we accept there may be drunk drivers then if one smashes into you in your car, that's fine becuase you know the risk of sharing the road with pissed *****.

I’ve been tracking the Worldometer daily data too and noted exactly the same! It looks like there were 2,472 actual new cases yesterday which were offset by the application of an “historical data revision” downward adjustment of 2,997 past cases, resulting in a net overall reduction of 525 cases on the day. I'd previously noted a few weeks ago that France did the same (for both cases and deaths). However, I haven't found a specific reason cited for the downward adjustment.

I can't agree with this. One big difference being a drink driver would knowingly drink, then knowingly drive - whereas he's talking about an asymptomatic person who doesn't know anything.
Furthermore an asymptomatic person is likely to be a low risk of spreading the virus, particularly as the main method of spread of the virus is coughing.
Every time I drive I keep aware that there maybe a drunk driver/ boy racer just about to smash into me....I do know the risk of driving, I just try to be aware. Likewise I know the risk ( very small) of me dying of a virus, I just keep awear.
We cant spend the rest of our lives wrapped in cotton wool, the virus is hear and maybe here to stay...get on with it and be careful.
You maybe prepared to never go to football, cricket, pub or gig again but I am not, TBH these are things that make life worth living and family of course.

That may be true for other countries (I haven't checked their sources) but for the UK they include against each day's stats a link to their source data, typically an official Gov.UK page or Department of Health and Social Care link, which you can find in the "Latest News" section of the link below against each date's "[source]".
