People do need to calm down. The vast majority of the population are fit and able and Covid 19 will not affect us. The vulnerable need to go into isolation and let us look after them.
Those who are fit and able need to be out there, keeping the economy going, exercising, socialising. Self isolation does not apply to the fit and healthy. Covid 19 will not affect us. Be aware of hygiene, help the vulnerable but keep living your lives.
Calm down.

It looks like people are already (quite rightly) taking you to task for your ignorant comments here. I suspect you’re one of those ‘uh it’s just a flu mate’ guys laughing at the warning signs back in early Feb.

To add to what others have said I’d suggest taking a look around the country and the world right now. Have you not noticed anything?

Entire sports have been cancelled. Cities globally are on lock down, entire industries have been laid off, schools shutdown. This is history. Completely unprecedented. If you disagree and feel otherwise please state any similar crisis years post war, I look forward to your answer.

Make no mistake, the global economic fallout of this is as dangerous if not more than the virus itself.

Oh and comparing numbers to flu is also very naive at this point. This epidemic has only started, not even peaked in Europe yet

He is right.

Wonderful. We are supposed to be returning home next Tuesday and not a bit of food in house. Got a delivery set up for following Monday but not confident that much will show up.

I might try and persuade Mrs to stay here. We might be in lockdown but people are generally behaving well and food shops are pretty well stocked.

It will likely mean we don't get home for several months and our travel insurance expires but the prospect is looking more appealing by the day

I would stay if you feel safe as it seems Spain is able to cope much better than the UK can at present however hopefully things will calm down shortly.

How would you feel if your ignorance gave the virus to an elderly friend or relative and they pass away? Those who are ‘fit and able’ for socialising are the most important people who need to adhere to these measures, I can’t believe people still don’t seem to understand that. I’m not a bed wetter or a worrier but I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I passed the virus on to someone more vulnerable and the worst happened

American adults of all ages — not just those in their 70s, 80s and 90s — are being seriously sickened by the coronavirus, according to a report on nearly 2,500 of the first recorded cases in the United States.

The report, issued Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, found that — as in other countries — the oldest patients had the greatest likelihood of dying and of being hospitalized. But of the 508 patients known to have been hospitalized, 38 percent were notably younger — between 20 and 54. And nearly half of the 121 patients who were admitted to intensive care units were adults under 65, the C.D.C. reported.

“I think everyone should be paying attention to this,” said Stephen S. Morse, a professor of epidemiology at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. “It’s not just going to be the elderly. There will be people age 20 and up. They do have to be careful, even if they think that they’re young and healthy.” [SNIP]

You must do what you think is correct. I shall continue to go outside, breath fresh air and ignore the panic and scaremongering.
And no, I’m not trolling.
There is no reason, if you are sensitive to the situation that most of us can’t carry on pretty much as normal while things remain open.

My relatives in southern Italy are under lock down, but shops are well stocked. Don't know what FK is going on here. May be we have too much choice and people are buying stuff they will never actually eat.
Too much "poundshop racketeering" going on.

The e-bay generation have seen a money for nothing opportunity.

In what way?

It’s not the end of the world. Most people will be largely unaffected by the virus itself .

However, I know Bozza doesn’t like this opinion so I’ll head off now before I’m banned.

Calm down. Get a grip. This will pass.

Looks like research indicates that Blood Type A people are more susceptible.

Take it with a pinch of salt, or course.

This is NOT just something from Facebook or Twitter.

We shall see.

I am not sure who thinks it is the end of the world, the poster you quoted didn't suggest that did they?

While most people will not be directly affected by the virus, at least significantly, there will very likely be massive indirect effects, that will affect everyone. I am not sure if you have realised this? This is more than just getting a bit/very sick.

I know this will pass, I think everyone does, at least more or less, until it is not a major issue, i.e when we get a vaccine... Again I don't know who thinks this will last forever, as things currently are?

Keep an eye out on eBay at the amount of stuff appearing....totally incredible that some people can be such wankers.

Let’s all be honest here, how many people think that isolating the whole country will be successful with the entitled British mentality which is even now rearing its head with people saying “ it’s a mild cough” or “ it’s a class war “ or “ it’s deliberately started to cull the old people”. .....

Decisions are being taken about our lives and at the end of the day it is not about the young and fit of society, it is about the old and vulnerable.

With this supermarket sweep shit that is going on, the true nature of the selfish society we have become is on full show.

With the vast majority of work here in or supporting tourism her fear (and some of mine I guess) is that as this thing takes hold then there could be a change in behaviour. That's why we made the decision a week ago to come home. Don't think we can stall it much longer as 'repatriation' flights will stop very soon I imagine

We don't have a crystal ball and no precedent to work with .... as I said to her whatever decision we make will likely be the wrong one!

You’re being completely irresponsible that’s why.

I completely agree that, health wise, most people will be unaffected by the virus but that’s not the point.

The virus spreads quickly through those people and soon reaches people it does affect. Health services become overwhelmed and people who shouldn’t die, do die.

Are you completely blind about what’s been going on in Italy? Young fit people carried on socialising and brought the virus home to kill their parents and grandparents.

You may not interact with vulnerable people but somewhere along the chain of transmission someone will. To advocate young people keep on socialising is reckless.

Beyond that, many of us may be fortunate enough to be low risk, but no one is no risk. I’d like there to be capacity in the health service should any of my young and fit friends or family are one of the unlucky ones requiring hospitalisation.

This, just to add also anyone needing hospital treatment for any other acute condition.

My wife is a teacher and just been told she is a key worker and will have to be in school, also been told all holiday for her is cancelled. We have kids of our own that will now be put in a situation we would rather avoid.

You must have been severely affected by the virus, either that or someone has hacked your account. You usually lose you shit over things, but your posts of late have been calm, measured and make sense.
I agree with what you are saying.

Same for my wife too. I know it's a bit scary, but I think about partners of those working on the front line of the NHS, I would be worried sick. I do see the point about your kids though. Look at this way, there won't be hardly any kids in school anyway, so will be a lot safer than having a packed school, if that helps. It's going to be a tough time for all, and we all have different situations.

I think a few people on here have lost all perspective. I am sensibly distancing, I’m not isolating, I’m minding who I have contact with and minimise that contact.
I’ve cancelled trips and pub visits. I still use the gym for the moment and go walking. Ive cancelled afternoon tea.
I’m still going to work.
But no, I’m not staying indoors.
To some, that translates as I’m going out and licking pensioners faces.
