I have a pal who is a brilliant mathematical modeller. Full professor in his early 30s. He just sent me this in an email:

"Currently there is 20% per day growth that is a 3.6 fold increase in the number of cases a week.

Italy imploded at 10k cases. At the current rate we get there by the end of march."

He and his modellers have been issued with high end laptops by his department, and his department has sent everyone home till the end of April.

Meanwhile my department (a health sciences department in the school of medicine, ironically) is still at work. Who to trust, medical doctors or computer modellers?

I think I'll carry on working at home for now. I have appointments next week that I should probably cancel. Skype is my friend.

Plenty of people working at universities in Sweden have no clue why the **** we arent doing anything and has simply decided to stay home whether the state or university likes it or not. Think its wise.

Have a holiday booked to the Caribbean middle of next month booked nearly a year ago, which of course with current projections could be the peak of the virus, wonderful luck.

Dilemma in our house. Got 2 weeks in canaries booked for Easter 4-18 April. It would be good if it were possible to claim on the travel insurance, which it’s not yet.

A ~30% increase in total cases compared to yesterday, as would be expected.

Things surely will go into 'lock down' now...

Spain gone from 2-3 thousand in last day up 1000 in 24 hours, and deaths doubled from 45 odd to 90 odd.

We have just binned Skype as Microsoft are binning it...we use TEAMS now.

After teething issues, it actually pretty good now

We are in Madeira over Easter, and we haven’t been told anything yet...it’s through TUI so if they cancel it, we will be refunded.

Just looked at bed and breakfasts in the Lake District for the same periods.....no wonder no one goes on holiday in England. This county is a monstrous rip off!

Don't book anything new for anywhere next month! A lot of places might still be in lockdown.

(Also, beware of insurance companies excluding pandemics...)
