I was expecting this to be more scaremongering BS but it’s actually reassured me greatly.

Confirmation for me that we’ll be following the German stats on death rates (although the fact that Coronavirus is in a carehome somewhere in the UK is really going to effect our figures).

“Countries that are prepared will see a fatality rate of ~0.5% (South Korea) to 0.9% (rest of China).”

It's been on here a few times but in case any of the "Fuss over nothing" crew are holding that line, it's worth posting again and again.

Not really Bozza

The fuss over nothing crew are either a bit thick or trolling, so nothing will make them change their postings.

Interesting though, that some of the original team fuss over nothing have now joined team concerned.
And none of team concerned have joined team fuss over nothing

Am certainly concerned for the vulnerable.

As regards to my own health, I'm confident I'll feel crap for a few days, watch some obscure scandi noir box set and get over it.

I hope the plans scheduled for today minimise the impact on the most susceptible.

Just a reminder that medium.com is a revenue sharing platform. It pays for an author to write a sensationalist piece that is viewed millions of times across the web. Not saying it's not a credible article, just.. evaluate your sources and don't panic too much while reading this.

I'm with Hugo Rune - more reassuring than anything (but also a stark warning about the impact of not taking the right action quickly). Thought this was a very well-researched and presented paper - may be worth revisiting some of the theories if it all does go massively wrong here though.

Some of the team 'fuss over nothing' are probably realising they're got it wrong, but they're too proud to admit their stupidity, so they're still downplaying the seriousness of the virus, whilst pretending they never actually said 'fuss over nothing'.

I think everyone started to accept the seriousness of the situation when all the toilet rolls got into their spaceship and left the planet.

No loyalty from the toilet rolls. Like rats deserting a sinking ship...

Interesting snippet within bbc online live feed that in China the peak has passed so if that's the case it does give an idea where we are headed timescales wise

Only if the entire population of the UK is locked up inside, forbidden from going outside and receive food dropped off to each neighbourhood periodically.

Do you think that's going to happen?

And then when the virus falls away because there has been no social interaction at all, how do things start again when you still have a whole country where almost no one has had the disease and no one has any immunity?

And who on earth is Thomas Pueyo and why is he qualified to be an expert in the spread of infectious disease exactly?

Hi previous medium articles were "how to write a funny speech", and "What the Rise of Skywalker can tell us about Storywriting" FFS.

No offence taken :)

if there is some scientific master plan we're all meant to trust? Why are so many other nations closing off flights from hotspots/quarantine' zones and we're not?

Do you trust it's in our interest to have daily flights arriving from Milan with no checks at the airport?

Hi PW.
In reply to your first question, I would say there is no scientific master plan, but I am sure our medics and scientists are using the best brains and knowledge in an effort to control and now delay the spread of the virus.
To your second question, we know that the Government and its advisers will be moving from control to delay imminently. This will, no doubt, result in a whole raft of new regulations and actions.
Lastly, I would assume that the authorities have been advised that there isn't necessarily a lot to be gained by merely checking people's temperatures at airports.Indeed I heard 'yet another expert'(there are tons of 'em) express this view on telly the other day. Others may disagree.Apparently, if anyone displays symptoms on an aircraft, there is a protocol and upon landing, no-one can leave until a medic has been sent to take stock.
Us laymen can have our views and argue 'til kingdom come about actions that should be taken.......in our view. However, as a civilised country, with hopefully a reputation for doing the right thing( most of the time!), I have to and do trust those with a far greater knowledge than the likes of you and I to protect us citizens to the best of their ability.
You may disagree, but ultimately, we are all on the same side.

Only this morning an expert was pointing out that if those arriving from italy were showing no symptoms then testing would be futile

Agreed. Apologies if I ever appeared to be in that group. It wasn’t my intention, and I acknowledge in the early days of this situation I did think it was being slightly overblown.

I 100% don’t now. I think some element of social distancing should be commenced immediately.

One question - once into a more stringent lockdown - how will we deal with the situation of people who have had the virus and want to go back out to help others/get shopping for those in quarantine? Based on the idea that it is very unlikely to contract Coronavirus twice, it would be potentially frustrating to have thousands or tens of thousands of people who are “post-Corona” having to continue isolating if they could be of more use helping those who are still having to isolate?

Talking on Sky News as this is temporary and it will pass and everything will be OK again. I think we are going to in this position for at least another 12 - 15 months until we get a vaccine.

I have come to the conclusion ( maybe rubbish ) that the 'story' about not taking measures too early because people will break them later is a cover story.

The Government want a significant number of cases to create an immunity in part of the population. I can see it would be monstrous for a politician to admit this.

It's a good question. Post-Corona people (there will probably soon be hundreds of thousands and then millions) are clearly very valuable for the reason you state.

But this comes back to something I said elsewhere on testing. There is such limited capacity to test at scale (10,000/day won't scratch the surface soon), that I'm guessing most of those post-Corona won't know, definitively, they are post-Corona. Did they have a cold, regular flu or Corona? What about those who had no symptoms at all?

So I watched an interesting youtube film from an American teacher in China filming life under lock down. They are allowed out to shop for essentials but have to have temp checked at several check points. Taxis were running but had a plastic sheet seperating the driver from the passengers. Deliveries were being made to people but were left in the street for people to pick up. They all seemed in relatively good spirits. One thing that struck me was that in China most people lived in apartment complexes which makes a controlled shut down much easier to manage.

Whilst not in the ‘fuss over nothing crew’ I’m certainly not in the ‘we are all going to do die’ camp either. The spanner in the works for was Italy. The more I read about what has been done or more importantly hasn’t been makes me think ‘f*ck!’
South Korea has shown what to do and Italy what not to do.
