We are literally watching history play out in front of our eyes. What is happening (or not) will be talked about for hundreds of years to come.

The lack of action from our Government is going to cost hundreds of thousands of people their lives

And when the deaths aren't in the hundreds of thousands you'll be back on here explaining why you over estimated so wildly

It seems blatantly obvious. A lot of experts saying it, as well as saying Italy acted to late.

I'm not convinced of the official...... let's wait to get maximum timing correct. It's the economy stupid, they just won't say it, social distancing is going to have all sorts of economic consequences on business and employees..... This imho is the reason for delaying, not some super duper public health stat that delay is better for citizens.

Closing our borders from affected countries, quarantining arrivals, could be done today even whilst waiting for social distancing...... Everyone else it seems is at it, except good old 'take it on the chin' blighty.

The Chinese got pissed off when some countries closed their borders to Chinese 6 weeks ago and yet the first thing they do now is exactly that. All foreigners must now be quarantined.

Yet we simply dither, delay and procrastinate as the crisis deepens.

Well, perhaps an email to the Chief Medical Officer and c.c.to the Chief Scientific Adviser would put them in the picture and point out the error of their ways.
Yes, I know that is a sarcastic reply, but I, for one, trust the experts to give the best advice and I don't believe any Government would go against that advice. When and if circumstances change ,so will the advice and subsequent actions to be taken.

Yet there are some folk here openly dismissing this as just a flu and openly planning their next holiday.

Openly displaying their ignorance, ‘proudly’, even...

Astonishing.

Next three already booked way before this issue but silly me for not being a fortune teller

A whole host of professionals have said there's no need to go into full lock down just yet. What more should they have done thus far in your eyes? I think our government is handling it well.

And as for hundreds of thousands of deaths. .. Please, stop spreading needless panicked rubbish.

Mass hysteria continues. How many cases of regular flu yesterday? How many deaths as a result of regular flu yesterday? Why are these figures not reported so that people can see the comparison and hopefully realise that this is not as scary as people are making out?

Because this is not the issue. The issue is it’s far more contagious and has far greater potential.

I’m genuinely staggered at the sheer ignorance (or stupidity, or hubris, or both) demonstrated by some here and others in Brighton the past week.

There is an official proclamation today that Covid-19 is officially a pandemic. You literally can’t get more official then that. And this thing is just getting started. It’s escalating with no vaccine in sight.

Are people really still suggesting this is “just a flu mate”. I mean really??

Reminded of George Carlin lately:
“Some people are really ****in’ stupid. Look at it this way. Think of how stupid the average person is, and then realise that half of ‘em are stupider then that”.

There’s some real scary dumbass mother******* walking around. This thread is testament to that.

I laughed at this - and then realised it isn’t funny

So many stupid people around - despite all the evidence they really believe it’s not a problem or they’re too much of a selfish ******* to care less

I am seriously worried about Solid's state of mind. He appears to have been in a state of high anxiety for some time now.
Solid, if you read this, please try and seek advice and hopefully some degree of reassurance/perspective from a medic.

Not about being selfish at all. I am very much as I have said previously I dont worry for myself, I worry about loved ones who are far more likely to be badly affected which leads me.to.be cautious as a result. That said I balance my worries against solid at the backs.sensationalist comments that the government are sitting on their hands whilst hundreds of thousands die.

I just don’t believe that the Chief Medical Officer will be able to persuade Cummins and Johnson away from the fact that they are putting economics over the over 60’s

Likewise though I'm sure I read on here he had sought help on this anxiety recently . This is where my problem is with the media, they are leading people with serious anxiety problems towards potential breakdowns.

Only if you're old or have underlying health problems.

Or get exposed to the virus a number of times - eg health workers

Or you’re young and have minor underlying health problems like asthma

But who cares about them eh?

One thing that people seem to be ignoring is that Italy is NOT a "first world country" by anything other than name. It's a gangster run group of areas and it has ZERO cohesion when it comes to government, education, law, tax and certainly healthcare.

Basically it's a bit like America but with no money.

It's not really a surprise that the Italians have managed to make a total b####cks of this.

Italy's health care system is excellent. In terms of capacity to deal with the outbreak, probably somewhat ahead of the UK.

Given our reaction to this so far, I'm thinking the fact we are not where Italy is, may be a lot more luck than judgement.

The Government of the UK will inevitably take a different route to that of say, China, but that certainly doesn't mean that your arch demons, Cummings and Johnson are willing to put the over 60's at unneccessary risk.Do you really think Johnson would say to the CMO, 'Oh bollocks to that idea Professor Witty, who cares if a load of wrinklies peg'!
Christ on a bike.........anyway, a cynic like you would know that it is the 60+ brigade are the main Tory voters. For what it is worth, this crisis is above politics and I reckon most balanced people in this country appreciate that.
A balance between keeping the country running and at the same time protecting the population has to be found. I believe that is what the Government and its advisers are doing. Not an easy job, but I reckon they are doing ok so far.
