Thanks.

I’d like to see pcr testing continue, the nhs variety eg at Preston Park and Withdean Stadium.

It’s generally by appointment only eg for nhs workers, checked before going back to work when covid’s in the household. It works.

And far cheaper than the private sector rip off when travelling.

Regarding lft’s, eventually we need to rationalise that, if variants continue to get milder. We have boxes of the stuff dished out by kids schools etc, some now out of date.

Now the pandemic panic’s over, states/health services have learnt a lot, once we get past this winter, a more sensible approach rather than the confetti strategy, should be agreed upon.

Yes, as long as someone sensible is given the task of working out what’s sensible - so hopefully not a member of HM Government...

I like cross party consensus on national issues, we actually saw some of that 2010 to 2015, not just involving the Coalition parties.

Unfortunately, peak levels of polarisation and party politicking ever since.

Yep, I’ve said for the last 18 months that this whole shitshow should have been handled similar to WWII with a coalition parliament, it may have prevented some of the apparent party political point scoring and may have put public interest first at all times - mistakes would probably have still happened, but not through self interest or self preservation.

Again, understood that free tests can’t be dished out like Smarties for ever.

I’m probably sounding boring now to some people, I can just imagine the voices, “oh ****, here he goes again, banging on about the vulnerable”, but the vulnerable are VERY close to my heart.

Only 2 weeks ago the Government updated their advice for those previously considered “clinically extremely vulnerable”, which contained this passage.

asking friends and family to take a rapid lateral flow antigen test before visiting you

Clearly if tests cease to be free, which they will in time, then this makes the vulnerable even more, well... vulnerable!

Nope ..you keep banging that drum ..i sometimes might disagree but you give me food for thought

So Drakeford does something you disagree with then it his fault but if he does something you agree with it is due to Boris Johnson? Got it.

As the Six Nations is about a month away I am sure they will decide nearer the time.

So the UK as a whole havent paid for those tests and it wont come out of our taxes for years and years, good to know.

Drakeford and Johnson are both liars, at least Johnson lies are helping England not being forced into unneeded restrictions

So the Welsh don't pay tax and have a devolved government?

Just before Christmas, Drakeford was complaining that the UK government wouldn't pay for specific Welsh furlough costs. Both this year and last, he was complaining that the extra measures put in place by the Welsh government and for the Welsh people only, should be paid for from Westminster. The Welsh government has the power to raise Welsh taxes to pay for all the covid precautions it can legally afford; they choose not to.

What the post below said

Even Scotland admit the extra restrictions do next to nothing

Estimated infection rates round the UK as of 7/1:

England; 1 in 15 people
Scotland: 1 in 20 people

Source: Office for National Statistics

If the intention was to keep infections down then Scotland has, as of last week at least, done a better job than England. There is an argument to be had about the economic impact but ultimately that is for the Scottish electorate to decide come election time.

Again, I am not sure the First Minister of Wales pushing for a good deal for Wales is that surprising. Raising tax in Wales probably wouldn't be too popular.

Politics, dear boy.

So the government(s) disagree with themselves?

yes, because different data. the first (you posted) is estimate based on models. probably making assumptions for behviour changes based on the rules. the second is based recorded cases.

the real state will be different too.

So you agree, Wales using restrictions for political gain. Get ya.

No, the First Minister of Wales made attempts to secure the best deal for the Welsh people who vote for him, no the English people who don't. As opposed to Boris Johnson who decided to ignore the lockdown rules he was telling the rest of the country to obey and in doing so insult every single key worker and relative of people who died.

I know who I prefer.

Even more relevantly, e77's figures are for the week ended 31st December while kinkygerbil's are for week ending 5th January.
