The strong guidance from now is to keep social contacts to an absolute minimum and if you absolutely have to socialise then do so outdoors, vaccines, social distancing and fresh air are our friends against Omicron in that order. Legally enforceable restrictions like Wales are now ordering need some time to allow businesses to get ready for the new measures which I expect will be in place for some time.

Looks like Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford wants to shut further sectors down beyond nightclubs but cannot without further treasury support from Westminster and a possible return of the furlough scheme through the rest of the winter/early Spring. Where the **** is Rishi Sunak??

Yeah it's SO urgent that he has done it to start in 10 days time. So people will basically spend the next week making the most of it and probably even more reckless.

All while cases in Wales are stable if not slightly declining.

If they're serious, impose restrictions from today or Monday or something.

Maybe he should make decisions that he can afford to fund, rather than trying to be different and also seeking to add to colossal debts we already have for an action that’s too late and may be unnecessary anyway

Can't you just cancel it? Not often you get a genuine reason to cancel at such short notice. I've pulled my little one out of nursery, cancelled all plans we had over this weekend and into next week. The Mrs isn't thrilled but she gets that if we get it now, Xmas is cancelled anyway.

Typically yesterday I came down with quite a nasty cough, 5 Lat flow tests say negative, but she says I needed to book a Pcr just to be certain, so just hoping for the results on that.

Hard to cancel the party as it's my daughter's best mate.
The comedy gig (Shagged, Married, Annoyed) was my wife's birthday present so up to her whether we go or not really.
My only hope is that there isn't (doesn't seem to be) much of it in Leeds yet. In fact cases are lower here than they've been since July.

Fabric always has a decent selection between Christmas and new year. Adam Beyer is a bit of a tradition, I've been a few times and it's always excellent with a good crowd - zero dickheads, chancers or troublemakers who are all saving it for the usually crap NYE!

Treasury support? You mean our support or that of generations to come …the cost of which went up yesterday and will more than likely increase further next year …Drakeford has made the decision independent of Westminster perhaps you should be asking him

Either Wales is an independent country that can make its own decisions based on its own income, or else Wales is part of the UK and must abide by the UK decisions. Wales has the power to raise extra taxes, so let them use that power to pay for furlough if they so wish.

I might agree if it weren't for Christmas coming up. If you catch it are you just going to ignore the requirement to isolate, the potential for a 10k fine, and the potential to kill the elderly folks?

This may come as a shock to you, but the elderly have potential to die without help from coronavirus. I think you might find that half a million elderly people died the year before coronavirus even existed.

I realise that even a fully jabbed 88 year old might have perhaps a 1% chance of dying of coronavirus if they go out and about as normal in 2022, compared with staying at home. But all that means is that their chance of dying next year rises from 20% to 21%. People forget just what a risky business it is, being old. If you knew that you had only a 79% chance of surviving till 2023, but if you abandoned your family and stayed in your house all year and saw literally no-one you could imporve the odds to 80%, would you take it? Would you give up the best of your remaining 5 years for a marginal improvement in your chance of reaching the less good years?

My mum's pretty similar. 85 and doesn't travel much now but has now been persuaded to come to us for a few days. When I broached the covid subject she said she couldn't care less now. She's sacrificed plenty and in her words she doesn't know how many more Christmases she has.

She’s going home the day after. Luckily with the ko being so late, if I catch it at the game I won’t know before I drive her home the morning after. Thanks to the PL and TV schedule
