Top Brexit so far guys, really great stuff. A few months in and a massive health crisis. Just imaging what it will be like in a few years :ffsparr:

Ah Plooky, you're back. I missed you. How was the ban ?

Is it though ?

Someone on NSC has already said they are worried about a cruise being cancelled his wife, children on one or other of their Mums - several pointed out not really a good idea for an older person to go on a cruise.

Cruise ships are lethal in this type of scenario, I would have thought a responsible action for Cruise Companies would be to cancel them all.

Laughable as it's so bleedin obvious it hardly needs to be said. I cant see many cruises running at all for the foreseeable.

What percentage of those who have contracted it is that? Sounds scary to me

I don't think they know how many people have contracted it... they will know a much smaller number of people who have reported illness, and an even smaller number of those with positive tests.

So the latest advice is don't go on cruises and wash your hands , lucky we are so healthy we're not shutting schools, locking down places to control it before it spreads more

The peak is apparently still months away. The expert advise is that those measures will be most effective if they are used later rather than now.

Seems like a pretty gutsy call so make. Gotta hope the experts have got it right.

Nope, it's UK experts v Rest of the world experts.

From La Liga to NBA, most other countries have cancelled major sporting events for several weeks.

That alone sets us apart, leaving aside the fact that some have gone into full lockdown, shut schools etc.

Let's hope the UK experts are right, eh?

Yes, I understand the thinking. It may be right (let's hope so!). But let's not pretend that only "a few people on the Internet" don't agree with the UK strategy.

Yes, I take your point, but much larger questions would be asked of the PM if he ignored the advice of his chief medical officer and chief scientist and went his own way, even if that way were to mimic what other countries have done. I would be extremely concerned if any PM, no matter who it was, ignored his own experts advice.

If I was the PM, I'd be getting a second opinion!

Interestingly, many UK-based businesses are ignoring government advice and already sending people to work from home.

Anyway, I'm not gonna bash the government all day. But I will be making some of my own decisions.... and watching the figures closely.

A total witch hunt by the NSC clique. I have NEVER insulted a mod. WTF was that about!?

I'd suggest that implying that the mods were Nazi supporters does somewhat class as an insult.

Anyway, nice that you've managed to drag Brexit into a completely non-Brexit thread !

Oh come off it. Had we stayed the brexit soy boy snowflakes would be using it as a tool to bash the eu with. One rule for them and another for the rest of us eh?

No they wouldn't, you're creating fake arguments........most rational people can seperate politics from a global pandemic that has no politics, no religion and no discrimination.

It would be just as ridiculous as leavers saying, isnt it great we left, just look how much worse Italy, Germany and France are right now.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with the brexit debate or decisions around brexit.

Nope, you’ll have to explain that to me

It's a myth to suggest any politician is 'in charge'.

Johnson's role in this is to sign off anything it is suggested he signs off and read (possibly pre-prepared) statements to the nation. Having simply said 'yes' to everything placed before him he can soak up the plaudits of having handled the crisis well if things turn out with the best case scenario. Of course, the reality is that you or I could have done the same thing.

Now if Corbyn had been in power he would probably have done the same. But, as your post shows, regardless, he would presented as having done contrary- even though he makes few real decisions without full support and direction.

That's the legacy of biased media and programmed minds.

Until you get an opinion which supports your existing position?

I listened to the whole broadcast with Boris and his advisors - it all seemed to make reasonable sense to me and seems a very measured and balanced response. Maybe we are in a better position to contain the virus than other countries. Again, they might be wrong and only time is going to tell one way or the other but you can't be 100% certain that they are. Whatever they chose to do, someone would disagree with. There is no perfect position or solution here, they're doing the best they can based on the information they have. I have no doubt they have more information than we do.
