It's Lord Triesman that should have left it alone.

Indeed. I don't get why people don't realise that in these situations it is not the media reporting the story to blame, but the person that has made it a story in the first place - as was the case with all the John Terry stuff.

That doesn't mean I'm gutted that our World Cup bid is probably now completely in the shitter, but it isn't the papers' fault, apart from there does appear to be some question over whether he thought he was speaking on or off the record.

Apparently it was a small comment in with a whole stream of the usual boring rubbish.

He won't be in the job come tonight. Expect a 'resignation' statement some time today. Muppet, Russia don't need any help in blowing us out of the water with their bid

Oh yeah absolutely, the pillock should never have said anything, and for my part of this I do have to own a fair amount of anti Daily Mail sentiment.

But nevertheless it all seems fairly small beer, for what's a stake.

Picked this up on SSN. Hardly scandal of the century, seems to me like another crass Mail attempt at smearing the Labour, the FA or in this case both. Most NSCers probably boycott MoS already, but after this, I would hope all football fans do. I suspect a Facebook campaign is already underway somewhere! (I would also urge fans not to write in complaining, as the more sacks of letters the Mail editor receives, the more delight he will get from this, as it means you've read their drivel). I always think twice before clicking on Daily Mail or Mail on Sunday links! I just think of it as a virus.

Another case of an individual in a position of power evidently thinking he is untouchable and able to pursue his staff for his sexual ends.

Given his avowed Communist past you would think he would he would be much more in touch with the beliefs of Marx and Engels and not seek to exploit the workers. Some chance...............like other ex Communists he grabbed a peerage when it was available so we know the cut of this kakistrocat's jib.

It is sad that the bid will be damaged however this is Lord Triesman's fault and he should go.

The Mail sucks, but if there is even a shred of truth to it, the blame is not on the media in any way.

It's in the public interest.

Football fans are notorious for swallowing their tongues in outrage at the "meeja" and what they deem as slights against football. It is, after all, just a game.

Having followed Lord Triesmans career it was obvious he was a disaster waiting to happen and should never been appointed by the FA, an extremely arrogant man promoted way beyond his meagre talents,be interested to hear the tone of his resignation speech, sad day for the FA.

Does ANYONE believe that a squeeky clean bid is what wins the contest to get the World Cup venue prize?

Football is corrupt. We are simply no good at out-corrupting our rivals.

The point is that the media in this country massively handicap what we can actually achieve. Whatever happens at the World Cup, it will be a failure. We could win it, and they'll be DESPERATE for scandal somewhere. And they can't even help the 2018 bid by not reporting on any irrelevant little comment made by anyone important. Let's hope David Beckham doesn't at any point suggest he doesn't like someone, otherwise he'll be painted as a villain too. It's nonsense, and the press in this country are absolutely pathetic.

As I've said before, and will again, why did they desperately make such a fuss about John Terry leading up to the World Cup? And the rubbish about Gerrard aswell. What on earth do they think it's going to achieve. They're pathetic little people on the get rich quick chase, not caring for 2 seconds who they trample on. Pathetic.

Obviously their intention is to sell newspapers, that's fine. The Terry saga did that. But Lord Triesman accuses someone of something.. big woop. Who cares what Lord Triesman says/does?

Pretty much the point I was trying to make, only when I attempted it, it was early.

His resignation speech was as expected from a nu-labour arse.

It's a pretty big deal, him accusing two nations of effectively trying to cheat at the forthcoming World Cup.

As has already been said, I don't understand why people get so upset about the media reporting true stories where football is concerned. Or would people prefer to not have a free press?

Are you serious? A guy who is in a senior position in our football association has accused another team of trying to bribe referee's!! Like or hate the mail if were trying to sell papers you would print the story as well. FACT.

edit: I've just read itzamora's post, basically I agree...

But it was a private conversation, which he may not even have know was being recorded (am I right there).
Yes the bloke was wrong, but was he set up?, would he have been set up (if he was) if our press, and therefore us, wasn't so blood thirsty?

The point I'm getting at is:-
Did anybody think actually this will damage our WC bid, which would be great for the country, our football, our finances, and our paper sales.

Or was it just a case of blimey this one little bit of a private conversation is a bit juicy lets publish that.
