Grealish - at last Southgate bases selection on form, he's been inconsequential for Abu Dhabi this season. More interested in boozing, sunbeds and women. Although he did make a great pass to TAA on Monday evening.

It's strange but welcome that Southgate's finally become ruthless.

Maddison was fair on his own omission ".... if I’m honest with myself, my form for Spurs when coming back from injury in the second half of the season probably wasn’t at the levels I had set which gave Gareth a decision to make,"

Dunk looks great when greedy Rice isn't playing. With Rice on the pitch, running back to occupy Dunk's space and fetch the ball like a febrile terrier, Dunk is left out on the wing like a spare part. Tricky, because Rice will certainly start.

Also, Dunk needs runners in midfield ready to receive the high risk killer pass. With Gallacher and whoever else it was in the last game, there is no bugger to pass to, so sideways passes are all that's available. Dunk managed only one decent high risk ball last game.

Anyway....

Brilliant. The show pony who has never really done it for Man City & England alongside the slab who is always a liability and is quite clearly, no better than Dunk who has surely been given his place.
Grealish was superb in the last Euros.

Not saying he deserves to go to this one but he was brilliant back then every time he played for England.

Sky reporting Branthwaite and the Liverpool defender Quansah (sp?) are also expected to be left out.

I don't normally say this but Gareth Southgate deserves credit for his selection.

To have binned off boo-boy targets Maguire, Hendo and Phillips takes some guts, and beyond that I'm also pleased he's dropped knobbers Maddison and Grealish who simply haven't done enough when compared with other attacking players.

It may be deficient in one or two areas but at least the squad is more likeable than it has been in a while and - crucially - one of the best squads in terms of current form that I've ever seen.
