The year 2014 is nearly upon us.

And yet in these enlightened times there are still people on here (mostly through a misguided servitude to political leaning and political correctness as opposed to common sense)who feel not only the need to protect religious dogma but also blindly defend outdated religious thinking with the deluded idea they are being tolerant and progressive, defending the right of certain sections of society to promote ideas that are simply divisive and that have beliefs that should rightly have been consigned to the dustbin centuries ago.

It is plain to see who the fools are in this debate and they are trying very hard to take over the asylum.

Merry ****ing Christmas indeed

I'd be very interested to know how you define enlightened. You yourself still seem to be in the intolerant dark ages.

i think you will find everyone has read it,but keep banging on about no one reading if that sits easier with you

ok, so which bit of this are you struggling with?

A spokesperson for M&S said that it works closely with employees with specific beliefs that restrict what food or drink they can handle, but on this occasion it had to “regret” that it had not followed its own guidelines.

“Where we have an employee whose religious beliefs restrict food or drink they can handle, we work closely with our member of staff to place them in suitable role, such as in our clothing department or bakery in foods.

Well, I feel I need to, as some people are having a problem understanding the story... ;-D

Which part of this are you not understanding soulman?

Hmmmm, interesting. So what happens when a customer tries to purchase a Sausage Roll in the bakery department, or some pigskin boots in the clothing department.
More offended and refusal i presume.

Read the article before you look even more ridiculous.

Listen to the audio. Even the Islamic law consultant thinks it is wrong.

Add to this from that article, speaking to Radio 5 live's On The Money programme on Sunday, Andy Street, managing director of John Lewis, said the company did not have a similar policy, and questioned whether members of staff should have the right to refuse to serve customers.

"This is taking it one stage beyond common sense," he told the programme.

Well as iv'e stated many times, the Sikhs, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews etc etc do not seem to get offended at every opportunity.....not sure about the Trekkies though.

nor do the muslims. there are hundreds working for M&S and others (who dont follow this policy) who dont give a hoot, because they recognise put through a bottle of plonk or a packet of bacon isnt the same as consuming them. but someone did get offended and M&S screwed up their action and responce to the matter. same happend with a christian a while ago, i'm sure there are cases for jews, hindus and buddhists if you look for them.

This is like the big fuss about nurses wearing veils...was debated..even on tv...until they realised they hadnt actually had any evidence that it had actually happened.

I'm an Atheist and when I worked on the tills at WH Smith they FORCED me to sell the bible. I got my revenge when stacking the shelves by sticking it in the fiction section though.
