lynch has almost 2 seasons of experience

whing has championship experience

elphick is class

rents is a really handful

butters... sorry butts, but there is nothing you can do that hinsh or lynch cant do anymore

Not sure that is true actually.

Don't underestimate the influence of Butts on his central defensive partner, Elphick is good but inexperienced, i think an old head like Butts this season could bring him on leaps and bounds......alongside Lynch is for the future but not right now

Butts looked a bit dodgy on Saturday and allowed the guy to get across him for the goal. Still deserves his place in the team but with Elphick looking so assured and Lynch coming back , he will need to be at top form to keep his place

Very tough call on this.

I think Guy has done us proud over his time with us (and to think of the abuse he got from so many fans now seems unbelievable really :( ), but I do think we should try Lynch & Elphick as a central pairing. If it doesn't work, then we know that Guy can come back in a do a good job, but we should at least give it a go.

1 This would give us more pace at the back.

2 Guy was hitting the ball high and long especially in the first half which effectively gave the Cobblers possession.

I expect Wilkins will give this a try soon.

Is this the Butters that was 2nd in the player of the year poll, 3 months ago, or a different one.

For those of you who question his value to the team / club, I have a point to make.

I have been watching the Albion for 25 years, and for 22 of them we failed to find or nuture one SINGLE decent home-grown centre back. [The only possible exception being Darren Newman who looked like he would be quality but went shit, largely thanks to an attitude issue].

Then, in the last three years, with Butters to guide them, and play alongside them, we have produced Hinshelwood, Lynch and Elphick.

End of point.

But before Dean Wilkins took over the yoof set up we had hardly produced a home grown player in any position...

I don't doubt that Butters' experienced has and will continue to help the young players learn, but he can't go on forever, right now we have two excellent young centrebacks, I think it would be foolish NOT to give them a chance to play together. That's not to say Butters would never get his place back, just that it should be tried.

That's fine, and put reasonably. I don't necessarily expect Guy to get through 50 games myself, and would be perfectly comfortably with any two of Elphick, Lynch and Hinshelwood if the need arises.

I'm really only commenting on the over the top negativity directed towards the guy on here today. Our most consistent performer over the last two years played a couple of [admittedly crap] long balls and got beaten twice in the air [by a 6'5" striker] and all of a sudden he's past it.
