Crewe look set to be thwarted in their bid to sign Shrewsbury's Luke Rodgers after their approach for the striker was turned down.
Speculation has been rife over the future of the 21-year-old - who netted 20 times last season - since the Shrews were relegated to the Nationwide Conference.
But he now seems set to remain at Gay Meadow after the club turned down an approach from the Division One side to take him to Gresty Road.
A statement from the Shrewsbury board read: "Last Thursday, chairman Roland Wycherley received a phone call from the chairman of Crewe, indicating that they were prepared to offer a sum of money for Luke Rodgers.
"The chairman agreed to discuss the offer with the board which he did at a meeting which was already scheduled for the Thursday afternoon.
"At the full board meeting, at which manager Jimmy Quinn and assistant manager Dave Cooke were present, the offer was immediately rejected and that decision was communicated to Crewe."
We certainly wont be able to offer as much as Crewe probably did so that rules him out for us.
