The man in the hat was a fool to stand up and celebrate. I have never had to watch Albion play away from within the opponent's home stands, but if I did I think I would have the sense to stay seated when we scored.
Having said that, however, the man was clearly with his mate who was an Albion fan, he obviously felt safe enough to celebrate without any retribution and certainly nothing about him gave the impression he was going to start a fight. In fact, he was sitting next to a young child, like yourself. So I have to admit your rant of obscenities and aggression were probably as bad - if not worse. There is a singing section where your misguided tirade would perhaps be more favourably welcomed.
When others behind me in F block were calling the stewards to eject him I saw no reason to allow a mob mentality to get an Albion fan's mate thrown out for one foolish action. In fact, I often work away in Leeds and although I have little affection for Bates and the manner he conducts himself, I have been shown great hospitality by their fans and worn my Albion hat without hassle while watching them. I was under the impression you also had connections in Leeds and had been treated well on visits to Elland Road.
Perhaps I am getting old but when I was a kid at the Goldstone and stood in the East and West stands they often were full of away fans for big matches and I always enjoyed the banter that took place.
For me, away trips to Bury and Lincoln where you can mix with the opposition fans before and after the game is the enjoyable part of the game, not trying to get the odd away fan who is with a mate ejected for being a bit foolish.
When the steward came up I explained the situation lots of people around agreed and the baying crowd saw sence, he was watched by stewards for the rest of the match who I thought handled the situatuion really well.
I know you are the new up and coming youth, passionate and committed in following our great club. I have supported you when I feel those that run the phone-in have been rude and short when dealing with you.
Yes, get anyone out of a football ground that is racist, offensive, aggressive, but read the situation and allow friends who support opposing sides to sit together and enjoy a game of football. And we can all go home knowing the fool in the hat has to support Leeds and will only ever see any future success if they have the word Rhinos after their names.
