Had the rare pleasure of managing to move a market yesterday btw, when I backed Kerrin McEvoy at 50-1 for the jockeys' championship. The firm (SportingOdds) cut him to 33-1 five minutes later, then he went and rode a double during the afternoon....

FWIW - not much, probably - I reckon that's still a very fair price (and if you hunt around, you might be able to get 40-1, as a colleague of mine did from Coral yesterday). McEvoy is as talented, intelligent and composed as any jockey I can remember in a quarter of a century following the turf, and though it did take him a bit of time to adjust to the variety of British tracks, he really looks the finished article now.

This year's title race will have more emphasis on skill over sheer stamina too, as jocks are restricted to riding at nine meetings a week. McEvoy hardly ever gets banned - which was what crippled Spencer last year - and though he usually goes back to Australia in mid October, he might well hang around if he is in with a chance of the championship.

Anyway, assuming he stays fit I really think McEvoy will give me some sort of run for my money, which is all you can ask for at odds like that.
