Once stood next to the Taxis fence as the field came over in the Velka Pardubicka too, back in the early 1990s, before the Czechs joined the real world and made it less of a pre-meditated death-trap.

Always fancied going to that. Think they showed it on Grandstand once or twice.

Wouldn't put you off it these days, I'm told it's a very different experience to 15 years ago. The course itself is extraordinary, truly beautiful, although Pardubice itself is fairly grim (it's where they make Semtex, and you pass the factory on the way from the main hotel to the track, so don't be throwing any fag-ends out of the window).

Only an hour or so on the train from Prague, though, or you can drive it almost as easily, while gawping at the chateaus on top of every hill.

Doubt you'll be able to get a six-course meal with wine and brandy in the best restaurant in Prague for £10 any longer though. I left the equivalent of £14, and I thought the waiter was going to invite me home to shag his wife...
