West Ham’s Paqueta has (allegedly) just scuppered an £85m move to ManC, commensurate pay to match and bought winners medals:

“West Ham’s Brazil international Lucas Paqueta is potentially facing an investigation from the Football Association over possible gambling charges, Telegraph Sport understands.

It is believed that the fear of him being charged and potentially receiving a ban from the game prompted the end of Manchester City’s interest in the player in what was shaping up to be an £85 million deal for the attacking midfielder.

When contacted, West Ham did not deny the existence of an FA investigation. The club declined to comment on the matter. The FA also chose not to comment”

He has also been charged with two breaches of FA Rule F3 in respect of alleged failures to comply pursuant to FA Rule F2.

Similar to Everton, I do enjoy the modern trend of incredulity at a charge after being cooperative. Like the authorities are going to say “well there’s all this evidence, but he didn’t OJ in a Bronco us so let’s just call it quits”.

Non league case of this for ONE yellow card was a ten year ban. Career could be over. All them yellows look intentional but then again most yellow cards probably would!

It's a big if, but IF these charges are proven then its incredibly damaging to the integrity of the game. And yes, it absolutely should be a life ban.
Or a perma-transfer to the WWE..

Could be a bit of an FFP issue for West Ham if he’s banned for several years - would presumably need to write off his remaining value in their books (presumably around £30m).
