Worth a separate thread perhaps.

Last lines of the Buckley article

Buckley gets seal of approval From The Argus)

LuaLua has distanced himself from a possible return to Albion in the new campaign.

The winger, who came on as substitute in Newcastle’s final two games of last season, said: "I have had a meeting with (manager) Alan Pardew at Newcastle and he wants me to stay."

If Pardew said anything other than wanting to keep KLL his fee would go down by a few hundred thousand.

I reckon we will buy him for around a million plus add-ons and sell-ons.

Given that the fee for Benno should be around 1.5m plus add-ons etc, it probably means a net cash outflow of around a million for three players which isn't too bad in today's market. Add on a couple of tasty young premiership loanees and some free transfer experienced championship level players and we will be set up just fine for the start of the new season with more to come in the January window once we know how we are going andf what we need to consolidate or to advance further.

Clutching at straws maybe... But he might mean staying a Newcastle player but that doesn't rule out another loan period...?

We had all been talking about signing him.

I think we have got to the point where we should either sign him or move on. Why keep developing him for Newcastle? We need to get players that we can develop and then cash-in on - like Bennett. A great bit of business, although probably going 12 months too soon.

I honestly don't think we'll see Lua Lua, I don't think Gus will want to spend that much money on him, given his injury problems (remember when we couldn't play him in back to back games because of his hamstrings? Do we want to spend £1m+ on someone like that ?)

To be honest if went spent £1m on KLL that'll be £2m on 2 wingers. We need strengthening down the middle of the team desperately.

I am not so sure it is an issue.

Gus sees conventional "English wingers" as "attacking players" and is likely to play them anywhere from attacking midfield (wings and central) to up front. I am sure this is all part of his Master Plan for next season where we will attack with fluidity and pace.

Pretty much this and i'm confident we will. Maybe it might be a loan but we do need quality in the middle.

Hes not going to get a game at Newcastle, they are going to be bringing in plenty of players in my opinion

A great chance we can get him on loan at least still in my opinion.

because WE benefit whilst doing so.

With your logic we should have NO loans...

No not at all. Loans are ok if it is viewed as an extended trial with a view to buying. Like with Sidwell.

We are FAR BETTER OFF if we get our own players, develop them, then sell them. As with Elliott Bennett.

I am saying that with LuaLua, we have seen what he can do, no doubt bumped up his price, and should either buy him or move on to someone who COULD possibly be ours in the future at least.

I hope that we do not break the bank for Lua Lua as I believe that good player that he is, he is also a bit of a luxury and the money could be spent better elsewhere, unless of course funding is not a problem. I think that Noone will perform the role that is set for Lua Lua just as, if not more effectively. If we lose Bennett but sign Buckley to replace him we would not be weakening the side.

Even if him having him on loan would get us a playoff spot?*

*as an example

I'm not arguing, I just don't understand your logic in any way.

It's not about see 'what he can do'. It's about making this years team the best it can be.

I assume that given that Lansbury or Cork were not going to be sold but only loaned out by their parent club you wouldnt want to take them or somebody from the Man Utd fringe players like Wellbeck, Machedo not that we would get them but similar.

I am also not a fan of loan players, an opininion whaich I am led to believe Gus shares. They are really only a short term fix, boths clubs get some short term benefit, however the player is not truly one of ours. We get no real long term benefit or loyalty (whatever that is in football today). Bit like renting or buying a house!

With the toon yet to delve into the andy Carroll money, it'll be interesting who they name in the 25
I think if we make a sensible offer, he's there for the taking

Unless we were desperate, or could not afford to buy the players we needed. Then no, I would rather give our own players match time. Gus is good at developing players, we are starting to show signs of making some money from it (Bennett, and Crofts to a lesser extent). Also, many young promising Premiership kids at the likes of Chelsea DO get sold on as soon as they show signs that they will never achieve the very high standards demanded by the best Premiership teams. Matthew Upson, Steve Sidwell to name but two.
