Lua Lua says he is enjoying time here, enjoys playing week in, week out and tells Naylor that a drop into League One wouldn't bother him

Gus says he wants Calderon to 'stay here for many years' and Albion are expected to prioritise his new deal when contract negotiations begin.

Gus says of his new players 'Everybody seems to be happy with them because they are different or better than what we have got.. I try not to make many mistakes...at the moment it is working, but it's not enough.

Barry Lloyd is no longer responsible for potential first team signings, having been made responsible for identifying new scholars and reporting directly to Martin Hinshelwood.

Poyet will review the scouting structure during close season.

All positive vibes coming out of the Albion :clap2:

ps.. Arismendi expected to be out until at least Saturday :(

Lua Lua pretty much said that he would consider a move to Brighton in the radio interview on Saturday. Seems to think that his opportunities at Newcastle are very limited and that the boss is signing even more players. Very promising - but this kind of interview will raise some interest amongst other clubs too.

Was good to see his crossing improving on Saturday. Definitely a notch above his previous games. Shame our midfield three weren't able to get in on the end of them.

ALBION are planning to secure the long-term future of starring Spaniard Inigo Calderon.

The right-back has been outstanding since becoming Gus Poyet’s first signing of the January window on a contract for the rest of the season.

Calderon, 28, was the sponsor’s man-of-the-match in Saturday’s home defeat by Swindon and will be towards the top of the list when new deals are finalised in order to stave off potential suitors.

Poyet revealed: “It is something we have to look at. I am looking forward to keeping him here for many years. He likes it here, he knows the situation so we are working on it.

“The good thing is if I look at the players I’ve brought in everyone can realise now how good Peter (Brezovan) has been for us and Calderon has been outstanding all the time. I think people now understand why Marcos (Painter) is playing and how solid he is and everyone can see LuaLua.

“Everybody seems to be happy with them because they are different or better than what we have got.

“That is the way I would like to work from now on and try not to make many mistakes. At the moment it is working but it is not enough.”

Meanwhile, former manager Barry Lloyd’s role in the scouting set-up has been redefined.

He is now answerable to director of football Martin Hinshelwood, with responsibility for identifying new scholars rather than potential first team signings. An overall review of the scouting structure will be conducted by Poyet during the close season.

Good news all round. Always thought that LuaLua would leave Newcastle in the summer but thought he'd go to a Championship club. Of course he still might but encouraging noises none the less.

Was in his interview after the game on Saturday. Take it you didn't hear it?

Nah. Would've been on the way back from the game still. Good news though, love to keep him as his final ball was good on Saturday, unfortunately only 1 to aim at as Crofts won't get in the box for some bizarre reason.

I can understand why players like lua lua would want to stay here. This town has its problems, but when the sun is shining like today its a lovley place to work and live.
We have now got a great manager and training staff a top class stadium in lovely surroundings (when its finished) and great fans.
We can all feel the buzz that is going around, so i am sure that the players can too.
Things are on the up guys.

Glad to see that gus in sorting Barry Lloyd out. Can you imagine him trying to bring a player in without Gus's say so. Twould be like a war.

I think that Hinshlewood and Lloyd should be able to work together and bring in some young talent. You never know they may unearth another Gareth Barry. This would leave Gus to sort out the nitty gritty of getting promotion with the first team. Were they responsible for bringing in Jake Caskey.

I would love it if we can keep hold of Lua-Lua, but I fully think we'll have serious competition from other Championship clubs for his signature. Good to hear we're going to review the scouting system, because I'm sick of Barry Lloyd and his wonderbuys.
