Too 'Mojo' cover story for my tastes. Great music though, but way too critically acclaimed for it's own good.

I saw Arthur Lee live in Newcastle around 2004, interesting and memorable. I guess for those who love the man and his music, magical.

Personally give me a Cressida or a Gravy Train or from the states a Zerfas, Granicus or Josefus and especially a Dryewater any day over the muso roll neckers' safety net of bands akin to Love.

Sorry, just the way I feel.

One of the all time greatest ever albums from the Summer of Love (1967)

Still sounds amazing, happy, dark, paranoid and mariachi to boot! Needs to be played LOUD

Interesting choice of words. One of their later albums was 'Out there' much heavier sound but still some great stuff. Listen to 'signed D.C' and 'Stand out'

It's funny; there I was listening to Hard Rope and Silken Twine by ISB - from their supposed early 70s low, ah! There's the rub, what is this new devilry? Electric guitars you say... Hmmm urge to ROCK rising.

But not in this acid fuelled, twee jaunt to the heady daze of joss stick fuelled peace, with a hint of bitter irony hewn betwixt the grooves of that there 12 inches of black gold.

Know what you mean - Love's music was never the sort that instantly reached out and grabbed you. Mind you, I don't think I'd have the patience these days to listen to an album that was new to me five times just to see whether I liked it or not!

Am quite proud of being open minded on music, and as Ken Bruce's Popmaster participants proudly boast 'my taste is eclectic'. Whilst I have heard of this, I have never listened so will give it a decent go.

You're right. It used to be you'd buy an album on recommendation and as you didn't have an unlimited choice of music to listen to at any one time, that you'd persevere with an album. I know I don't give albums as much chance as I used to when they were on vinyl. It was either listen to your records or the radio, these days you can listen to anything you want at any time, hence no need to persevere with something you are not taken with immediately. Shame.

I first listened to it after Mani from Stone Roses went on about it. If it's good enough for Mani, it's good enough for me!��

True, and it is a shame. Even used to buy the occasional album on spec, or because I liked the cover, and take it home and play it all evening. Didn't ALWAYS work, even back then!

One thing remains certain, we will never see it's like again... And that, regardless of personal taste/musical crusade is a very, very sad thing. Pale imitation perhaps, but groundbreaking experimentation, coupled with a cultural revolution?!? No chance.

I heard a 'music journalist, claim 1D are the modern Beatles earlier this evening - he even said the fatal 'dare I say...' Line... You know it's over when these kind of comments are getting made. That we can so readily mistake corporate turnover for actual talent, astounds me...

I was privilaged to see Arthur Lee and some young fan musicians peform this wonderful album at the Mount Ephraim festival, near Faversham, a year or so before he died. We were not expecting anything much, but it was sublime. Comsequently, folks in their 50s in tears, me included. One of my favourite ever gigs. Lee was banged up on the three strkes law, for being a tit. So glad he was rescued when he came out, and had his time in the Sun. There's a blue bird sitting on a branch . . . . .
