Lost phone, Eastbourne - Hastings.

A friend of mine lost her phone on her way from Eastbourne to hastings this morning by train.

Big shame as it cost more than she can probably afford and had just topped it up too.

No sign of it turning up and any call just cuts out so seems somebody probably switched the sim.

Bit sad these days that people who find things like this do not hand them in or try to trace the owner. I've found things in the past, even stolen wallets that have been riffled for cash, but I've always managed to get things back to their owners and feel better for doing so. I know I wouldn't feel good keeping something that some other poor bugger had worked hard to buy and unfortunatly lost.

There was a guy on this board a couple of months ago who managed to get a lost phone back to its owner. He was from Gillingham from memory and the 'phone loser' had some connection to the Albion. I'm sure someone who posted on this thread would be able to trawl the threads and post it on here.

I left my Wallet on the 2 the other day. A woman phoned me up and had all my cards - shame the little shits sitting next to me probably took the 17.40 out, and then DUMPED IT IN THE f***ing ADUR!

Some lovely woman picked it up, chucked the ruined (christmas gift) wallet, and ID'd the college i go to via the student ID i have - so i'm getting my cards back but its still a f***ing sad state of affairs that people see fit to take phones and wallets.

i've never kept a phone i've found, or taken money from the wallet i found.

Hold fast, because some wankers don't hand in a phone we all must buy cheap phones? If some one found the phone, they HAVE to hand it in. Its just really out of order if you don't.

I inadvertently left my jacket on the train in London. The jacket got handed in, but the wallet and phone were taken. I wasn't too fussed about the £60 and losing the phone, except for photos and old ticket stubs in my wallet. What possesses people to take something that it not theirs?

My phone is probably more than I can afford, but I need email on the go as I can't use it's primary use as a telephone!

no, if you buy an expensive phone then you make damn sure you dont lose it, if you do you're stupid.....simple! its got nothing to do with people handing it in, its your own damn fault.

I left my wallet in an asian takeaway on the complete other side of town, and someone managed to track me down to give it back a few days later. I was impressed, but a poor student at the time so couldn't really give a reward. It would have been a bit insulting pulling out the silver coins and going, "here ya go, thanks for the effort, I know you probably spent hours figuring out how to get this to me, so heres 65c."

No need for specific mobile insurance as mobile phones are usually covered on your home contents insurance (assuming she has some) However, if she's not sure if she's lost it or had it stolen, it's important she assumes stolen and reports it as such. If you tell an insurance company that you left something unattended, they will hold you liable. If you report to the police you had it when you got on but not when you got off and someone MAY have slipped into your pocket then it counts as suspected theft and it is covered.

Thanx for the comments. I'm pretty much old school so I also hold that you shouldn't really buy something you can't afford to lose, but these things happen.

I know my phone is the type that others probably wouldn't be seen dead nicking!
