Losing the love for the albion

I used to love going to the Goldstone,park my car on the side of the road,pay £8 at the turnstile to go in and stand where I want.times have changed I'm afraid and for all the bad changes you look at the stadium and facilities and things really are not too bad you know.

To add to you valid point: £8 to stand in the Goldstone in our last season is the equivalent of just over £12, so the cheapest adult ST at the Amex is only £5 extra per game.

I have read recently that the Amex at £95 million, is the most expensive stadium ever built, anywhere, on a £ per seat ratio.

Anyone know if this is correct and if so why?

No it isn't.
Wembley works out at over £8,000 per seat
Emirates, about £6,500.
Amex (30,750 when completed) works out about half that - I say about half because we don't know how much all this extra work is costing.

I don't think the club have forgotten where we've come from at all. And maybe you've had some special treatment over the years that I've missed, as I've never been treated as special. I've bought my tickets, and gone to games - no phone call from Dick thanking me. Nothing from the players either.

I beg your pardon? Did you try one of the pies at Selhurst? I still feel sick from it. I ordered and paid for chicken, then after paying they tell me there aren't any, so I had 'steak'. Well, there was no meat in it, just some sort of sawdust. And it was something like £4. I think ours are less with our smart cards are they not? And what about the Withdean - I was paying over £3 for the saveloy and chips and that was tough to stomach too. The pies at the Amex are nice, and when compared to standard football food they're bloody amazing.

I appreciate that you have been on this site for months now but you really should have done your research.

Regarding pies, etc. I never used to bother eating at the Goldstone or Withdean. Have something to eat before you leave.

I really don't think we realise how lucky we are.

The atmosphere at The Amex is IMMENSE compared to most grounds of a similar size in this country, and we don't have hideous things like after-goal music.

I think people need to visit another ground, sit in the home side stand (i.e. equivalent of West Stand) and then re-assess their view of The Amex. I went to Nottingham Forest v Hull last season with my Forest supporting cousin, and I reckon about 300 of the 17,000+ Forest fans actually chanted at ANY point of the match. There was so little atmosphere I could hear conversations (mostly moaning) from people 2 or 3 rows in front.

Trust me, The Amex is a helluva atmosphere compared to most grounds in this country.

I think what the OP is saying is that he can't afford it anyway.............

What I don't really understand is why he doesn't decide to set a maximum amount that he's prepared to spend and stick to the figure, even if it means he has to make sacrifices. I certainly have to because, I find that I can't afford to make every game that my STH entitles me to go to.

e.g. The last home game I went to was Middlesborough on 20th October, since then I've been unable to attend games because I have either, used up all my annual holiday entitlement and cannot make the mid-week fixtures, or been ill.

But missing those 4 games has saved me around £ 109 in train fares, and that's going to come in very useful when it comes to paying for my Newcastle ticket.

But it is pretty standard. Sure you have quoted the HIGHEST prices you could, and I am sure that helps your argument, but it is not reality is it ? This is the face of football, we have a £105m stadium to pay for, we have a state of the art training facilitiy on the way. Who is going to pay for all this? I think being at Withdean for so long really has damaged some peoples brains and common sense.

I went there as I wanted good view as I dont like being high in the roof, didnt want the north stand as I felt like it would be too away game ish being behind the goal.

With regards to the ticket prices, how much do you expect to pay for around a £130m(Stadium & Training academy) investment and to attract better players? whilst trying to run at a profit? I think you maybe have an issue with the wider issues of the sport to be honest

That's right. It seems people want both. If the club gave us the figures of what it costs to run this club weekly I think most people would be shocked. I look at this way, we can't have top class players, state of the art stadium and expect to pay Division 2 prices to get in.

However we can't moan about the football and non investment in players, if ticket prices go down to 15 each, and we are scraping around in League 1 with crowds of 8,000

Don't like the direction we are headng ? best football ever, best stadium, fantastic crowds, tickets are £28 (only £4 more than i paid at the Withdean) 3 rows to the front of WSU its a brilliant view...don't have a pie, parking £13 i think everyone knows the answer to that, ITS FREE TO GET THERE IF YOU LIVE WITH 10 miles (not bad iether is it ??). Still feels like my Albion to me, Yes some of the tickets are high but my season ticket works out at £18 a game in WSU its great value and i love it.

I agree in principle but unfortunately this is modern football.

It isn't just a game any more; it's a billion pound business and in order to compete clubs have to generate money. The majority of that money will come from the fans.

we live in the south east - the prices for everything are the most expensive in the country

save your cash, and go to the northern (cheaper) away games

swear more, and at random times, people around you will think you have torrettes !

the one thing i miss most about the past, pre my ST, was deciding on the day to go to a game, POTG, amble through the terrancing to find some familiar faces

Indeed they are. If you'd told me a year or two back that we'd be shipping seven (7) goals to Crystal Palace in less than two seasons and that our former top striker would have scored three (3) of them I'd have said you were f***ing nuts. It doesn't come much better than this, trust me.
